Default Savage Accustock question

I bought a Savage Weather Warrior in 7mm mag and it came with a trigger pull weight of 2.5 lbs. I would like to see if I can get it as light as I can but the manual is an unreadable mixed up mess, at least to me. I thought that I read somewhere that you have to be careful with them and torking and such when putting them back together. Can I just do it like any other type of stock or is there more to it? Thanks for your help. Bob..

I am confused on your question...are you asking about adjusting the Accu-Trigger? or the torque specs for installing the action in the Accu-Stock?

I am pretty sure to adjust the trigger you do not have to remove the action from the stock...

Yes Lefty I would like to see if I can adjust the trigger down. I believe you have to pull the stock off and am concerned about getting it back together correctly. Thanks.

Gotcha!

Yes you are correct (I just checked my Savage) you do have to pull the stock off to adjust it. I am not sure the torque specs on the Accu-Stock as mine does not have the Accu-Stock....I have the tupperware stock on mine

I found this for you....sounds like the right way to do it.

Proper Adjustment of The AccuStock
there is a specific technique for assembling the action into the AccuStock,
and it needs to be strictly adhered to as follows:

1. Ensure that the recoil lug “wedge”
screw is backed out to the point where
the wedge has sufficient vertical movement to allow the recoil lug to seat
against the bottom of the aluminum rail.
2. With the action inserted into the
stock, justify the action toward the rear
of the stock to allow the recoil lug on
the action to be seated against the boss
on the aluminum rail.
3. Tighten the forward most screw to
10 in.-lbs. to seat the action against the
aluminum rail boss, then back out one-
half turn.
4. Tighten the middle action screw to 10
in.-lbs.
5. Tighten the rear action screw to 10
in.-lbs.
6. Tighten the forward action screw to
10 in.-lbs
Repeat steps four through six and
increase torque value in increments up
to a final torque value of 40 to 45 in.-lbs.
note: It is extremely important to
tighten per the instructions above
because when you are tightening the
action down into the AccuStock you are
spreading the aluminum side rails and
evenly moving the action down onto
the base of the rail, ensuring positive
engagement.

Hope this helps!

The newer models dont have the recoil lig screw if thats the case for you just pull the action towards the rear of the stock firmly and snug the bolts then start the sequence make sure you take your time to do it right or they shoot all over the place i learned that the hard way

Yes it does help and while a little complicated, I think I can manage it if I follow the steps. Thank You for that Lefty!

I purchased the rifle new last fall and have not used it yet. It is set up now. Gee whiz, you would think they could have made it a bit simpler anyhow. Anyway, again, if I take my time and follow the sequence I should be o.k.. Thanks dogslayer.

Yeah, I'm hoping. Mine came with a trigger pull of 2.5 lbs. What did you get yours down to? Thanks dogslayer

2.5lbs is pretty light already. You won't want it much lighter for hunting! Bench sure, but hunting is a whole different ball game!

As timesink says that is pretty good for hunting. Why not see where it groups before taking it apart. you may have to do other tweaking as well.

Hi timsesink. Yes, the rifle will just be used for long range target practise. I will start out at 500 and work out from there. However, if I can get real consistent at 500, which shouldn't be too difficult, I will be happy. I hunt with other rifles but have usually kept to around 300 yards as my max. range. I just would like to be prepared if a longer shot is ever needed. Plus, as my son and I enjoy shooting targets and gophers during the off season, I set this one up to add to the fun.

From what I remember, looking in the PDF catalog, 2.5 lbs is the minimum for the current line-up of 'normal' Savage models. I think I read that they have Law Enforcement models that went down to 1.5 lbs. But this is all from memory, so I could be way off.

I do remember that I turned mine to minimum (though I think this is how it was set from the factory) and I have been telling people it's around 2.5 lbs... hopefully I haven't been lying!

I believe that some models, ie. TR., etc. and perhaps Law E., come with the Savage Target Accutrigger that I think can be adjusted to ounces. But, the standard Accutrigger, you may be right. I will check it out.

I looked again, apparently I was incomplete.

The one for my Savage 111 is 2.5 - 6 lbs, and the law enforcement model is 1.5 - 6 lbs, so at least I was right there.

There is also a precision trigger from 6 oz to 2.5 lbs.

Predator models are 1.5 - 6 lbs.

Lightweight Varmint is 2.5 - 3.25 lbs.

So they appear to be all over the place, sorry for the misinformation. I found all this in the PDF catalog.
