Default The best (cheapest) way to pay for natural gas.

I use direct energy but I think I want out. What is the most economical way to get power and gas?

For power I'm with spot power. I've been very happy.

I take it you're with Direct Energy and not Direct Energy Regulated Services. I am with Direct Energy Regulated as it is available in my area. When electrical power became deregulated I was with EPCOR and I remained with EPCOR until I moved down South. I have never opted for a contract with a competitive retailer. I maintain that entering into a contract with any retailer will result in inflated billing.

Direct Energy Regualted seems to be the cheapest up here in GP. My average combined gas/electrical this summer has been hovering around $210, and that's with 3 kids at home showering, doing laundry etc. During the cold months it climbs up about $100...I've got a friend with a Direct Energy Contract and they are paying close to double.

From one of the natural gas coops or farmer power distribution firms like EQUAS. They are not profit driven just need to cover base costs.
