Default Do draws apply to youth hunting

Can a youth hunt a deer that is a draw for adults with a general youth tag? For example if mule deer buck is a draw for me can a youth hunt one on a general youth tag.

Only the person/people who have licenses tied to the draw tag can shoot the animal. I say people, because of partner licenses.

We thought of this early and got my son in for specific draws. Some just to build on and some to use as soon as he's drawn. Unless it's a pretty big deal draw that I get, I won't get him a partnered license, he can have his own. The youth whitetail and mule deer where only something like $9 compared to the $40 something for a regular one.

No partner licence parents did not get drawn just got their youth daughter to shoot a mulie buck on youth licence in a draw zone. I think I have a phone call to make.

Yes you do. Parents that use their child to commit an illegal activity, because they themselves don't have a tag, need to be held accountable.

Its amazing anyone thinks the youth license means you can hunt in a draw zone. This is why hunting in alberta is doomed. Too many stupid people. The youth mule deer license is the exact same thing as the general mule deer license adults get, its just cheaper.

"Stupid" might be the wrong word but....the number of people posting on this site and other Alberta sites regarding basic questions on the regs, that they should have an understanding of before buying a license is very disheartening. What is worse is some of the replies they get from "seasoned" (?) hunters. It seems some choose to interpret the regs to justify the way they hunt and others assume that because something was a law in the province they came from they will just carry on in Alberta loosely following the same rules as they grew up with. I'm not sure what the answer is since AHEIA has chosen not to bother with dealing with the regs issue in their hunting training program, but I feel it is certainly an issue that should be addressed/
just my 2 cents

Unwarranted insults for honest questions are unacceptable. It is why people are reluctant to post. Would it be better if he broke the law? C'mon people, please be better than this.

There's been a few charges laid over the last couple of years where parents have either misenterpreted the youth mule deer license regs or downright ignored them on purpose. I can remember at least one that was a result of posting the pics and zone on social media and people started to put 2+2 together that a 14 year old shouldn't have been able to get a antlered mule deer tag in a zone with a 6 year wait.

Know the rules. Read the regs and figure them out, or ask fish and wildlife for interpretations

This happens every year! The "youth" mule deer license is a cheaper version of a general mule deer license. It's not a "free pass" for a youth hunter to hunt draw zones for mule deer!

I have a hard time believing that all of these people genuinely don't understand the regulations. I truly believe that some parents are just hoping that if they are caught and plead ignorance, the officer will be hesitant to charge a youth.

Exactly .. the regs here really arent that hard to understand . Try some of those from the states and you need a lawyer to interpret to understand em .

They could easily eliminate, or at least alleviate (because there's still adults using general tags in draw zones), the problem by just dropping the "youth" designation, call it a general mule deer tag, same as for an adult. The system knows the age of the person buying the tag, it could just charge those under 18 the discounted rate of $8, or whatever it is.

I dont think this is fair either , if a draw tag is a certain price for an adult it should remain the same price for a youth . Eliminate the confusion

Mule crazy didn't call the OP stupid, he called the person the OP was talking about stupid. If you read the OP's 2 post he is not referring to his own daughter.

I thought I was clear I am not asking for myself and in no way am I connected to the shooter. It is my best friends sister and husband that are getting there youth to do it. I just wanted clearification on the matter. I did try and find the answer and wasn’t successful. Sorry I thought I could ask here it was a simple yes or no question. Hey guess I know better for next time.

+1 mule crazy appears to have been the victim of a misunderstanding.

That seemed obvious to me as well.

Is there a daily quota on suspensions?

------------

How would F&W handle a situation like this, are the people accompanying the youth liable for the kids' actions, or just the youth?

I think you are being a little sensitive as well, nobody attacked you, this shouldn't be a big issue. You asked a question which is a very sensitive one, it frustrates a lot of fellow hunters who know the regs and still see these things continuely happening. There are some things in the regs that I literally have to read 3 times over to get, some rules could be written up simpler. You need to tell your friends whoever to stop they are wrong.
Can't we all be friends!!

It’s good that you looked for a better understanding of how the youth licensing works to make sure your call was justifiable. And it’s great to see that you are willing to hold even your best friends family accountable.
Have a good rest of your season.

I did not see an insult directed at the OP this looks more like a general statement to anyone that breaks the law by using their children.
And there is a lot of people that do this kind of thing because they think they found some type of gray area in the regs which is willingly breaking the law.
The lawmakers state that there is no excuse for not understanding the regulations.

Multiple people, as well as some on this thread, complained about the post in question, citing name calling as a reason people are reluctant to post. I agree 100%.

It really is better to send a pm if you disagree with a decision.

Mule Crazy is no longer on suspension.

Thanks for retracting your suspension SNS. It was really a misunderstanding, totally not directed at the OP, could I have chose better words and made that more clear? absolutely. Thankfully it is all good now.

cheers,
