A light bulb just went off in my head... Find some sheds, cut them into equal lengths. Put them in your rattling back instead of wood blocks...

Matching Heavy Shed's,bigger the Better, cut off the Browtines,Drill holes through the bases if desired,so you can run a string to keep them together.

I know lol. But I like the use of the bag better... I was thinking of just replacing the wood blocks with real antler...

Friend owns a deer farm so I get a big heavy 4X4 set every couple of years. Cut off the brow tines and put some rope through the ends. The bigger the better is right. The sound seems to carry much farther.

Real all the way.. I call moose with an old birch bark and I rattle deer with real horns and I still wear nothing but real wool when hunting.. For me there are certain things that can't be compromised..

I was using my rattle bag for the first time today and had the exact same idea. I think it would work great. I might just go chop some antlers up later and put them in the bag and see what happens!

I also use the real deal. I do change out my antlers every year so they always sound fresh. I find that after they sit a couple years they change their tone. Don't know if it makes a differance, I just do it.

Fresh sheds are a must to sound proper. Its also amazing how much better say 120" set sounds compared to a 100" set, and i beleive the deer can tell the difference. If it sounds like two little guys are fighting why should a 150 feel the need to come and investigate they are no threat to his monarchy.
Off topic, but I've heard that rattling doesn't work near as good for mulies as it does for whitetails. Is this true?

I use a rattle bag, and 4 or 5 sets of real ones, some are sheds and my favorite is a 145 whitetail I cut the browtines off. The bigger ones sound louder and better.

x2 on the mule antlers, most are built way better for rattling. Ive used the same set for almost 20yrs. Results are just as good now as they were the first years.

If we are targeting a big deer in the area, we pull out two sets of antlers with the skull caps attached, both are over 150, makes an unmistakable sound of two big boys scrapping, has worked several times.... kids love to carry them for you too...lol
