The ugliest piece of junk project.
Here's an idea. Build a custom gun to look as though it's the biggest piece of junk you ever saw. Rusted barrel/action. Stock has cracks in it, scratched, dented and dragged on a grav road. Throw in some electrical or duct tape for good measure. But internally, a sweet heart, custom build for accuracy. Pillared, bedded, trued action, custom barrel, nice trigger. Internally awesome and externally disgusting. Sounds like a fun project. 
I have a gun in my inventory that I can do that with, I don't want to sell it, but I sure may have some fun with it. Lol.

Might as well get a barrel specially made so that it is perfectly straight but looks noticeably bent to one side.

Now that would be funny. Make sure it is an absolute tack driver. Take it to competitions even.

hardly a new idea. Ron smith rifled a length of rebar for a friend of his , he went on to win some matches

Why bother, just get an AR-30. Ugliest finishing I've ever seen on a gun. Looks like a chevy block recycled as a bolt action rifle. But it is supposed to be sub moa...

My 'lil brother is doing just that with a pick up truck that recently snagged. A '53 Merc. He's dropping a 427 Cobra Jet in it. He's going to leave the body as is, dents and faded paint and all. But the suspension, gearing and engine are gonna be top gun. This is where I got my idea from....a sleeper gun. LOL. I'm no gear head, but he is...he rattled off the specs to me and a light came on.

i think he is on this forum as single shot tom. epoxy and wire to hold sights together.
i did this on my last rifle took a ronsmith gain twist in 26" 257wby with near alphamounts and swaro nestled in a 1970's early wby fiber stock i called it a rat rifle...like the rat rods that are so popular.

A buddy just got the 30-30 reamer he had made to his specs. He is a good shooter. Going to be intersting when someone asks him about his groups in the mid-3's and he he shows them the the case.

I have had and still have a few rifles which are decidedly ugly but are pretty good shooters. My favorite is a P14 with the original "sporterized" military stock which has been lengthened with a nice piece of pine (rasped to contour; no sanding). The barrel is a stainless Douglas chamber in 30/40 Krag and finished with dabbed on Rustoleum paint. Accuracy is definitely in the sub-3/4 moa range.
One of my better shooting f/tr rifles is far from pretty. The macmillan stock is missing a lot of paint and I never did get around to bluing the 1965 Model 70 action which has acquired a nice blotchy brownish patina over the years but it is still competitive.
