I borrowed one from a friend. It was just fine. No big difference between that and the 5-0-5 I had.

Can't beat the 505 but there are a few tricks to using it properly. It's made by Ohaus too.

I have one that I have used constantly for over 40 years. Still works fine. I have a 505 as my second manual scale and a couple of electronic scales, but prefer the Lyman for daily use.

Just so I don't mislead, I was just down in my loading room and the RCBS I have is actually a 10-10, not the 505. Tells you how long it has been since I used that one. The 1010 uses a screw adjustment for the first ten grains so it is not the same as the 505. The 505 adjusts weight settings similar to the Lyman. The Lyman is faster to set up than the 1010 and stays zeroed far better, so I am confident it will serve you well. Sorry but I don't have direct comparison to offer on the 505 like I thought I did.

As a beginner reloader I have found the RCBS 10-10 scale easy to use.

Michael, I have the 505 and would love to learn more tricks.

Mine's kept under cover when not in use, and I clean the pivot area with alcohol & q-tips once a year. TLC goes a long way.

The thing is about most decent balance scales is that O-Haus makes them and the the reloading people just puts their paint on them. Be it green, red, orange, blue. But my RCBS Chargemaster has never let me down when properly set up, which includes warm up time, levelling, and draft reduction. I check my Chargemaster after throwing several charges against my RCBS balance beam and it remains dead on. Of course, the Chargemaster isn't for everyone due to price. But mine works flawlessly with good care and setting up. I couldn't do without it. Best doggone scale for precision and bulk reloading in my opinion.
