Sorry about the delay guys... I was out elk hunting

My good friend and I hit the trail early in the morning saturday on our way into one of my elk holes (that I hadn't hunted in bow season). We were dead set on filling an elk tag that morning and to be honest a big whitetail wasn't top of mind (didn't even have a deer call around my neck... which is rare).

We hiked roughly 4km to the start of the trail that heads into the elk hole and I told my buddy before we got going to "hunt as if you have a bow in your hands"... he knew I as serious given the "pretty" make-up job covering my face. So off we went still hunting down the trail covered by a mixed stand that afforded about a 100 yard shot in either direction. 300 yards down the trail I, as many hunters do, had this feeling that I was being watched... my buddy was still in good cover but I was starting to break into a small clearing. I looked to my right and seen this buck standing roughly 80 yards quatering towards me. I whispered "good buck" my buddy whispered back "how big" and I broke the whispering with a reply from my rifle. The buck went 30 yards and expired.

I didn't have a ton of time to judge him but seen good mass, good width, and 5 a side. I do wish his g2's were taller from the scoring side of things but he makes up for it with a beautiful short cape, a double white patch, and red gaurd hairs. Should make a great mount! Judging by the amount of fat he had we are in for a long winter.

He isn't my biggest buck by any means but the memory of having my best bud over my shoulder when I pulled the trigger will help us out during "story time" around the fire as we get older. I am sure some larger bone coudl have dropped later this fall but I don't have any additional days off to Hunt this year... so I guess I can't complain

Thanks for the congrats everyone. I hope to see your trophies this fall! A few more photos are below... sorry about the quality (took them on my phone)

Default Nice Buck

I'd shut my whitetail season down for that guy and maybe more of a compliment I would interupt an elk hunt for him to.

I bet your buddy was happy to see he was a nice buck as well. His question made it clear now is not the time for a spiker.

Nice buck.
