Default Do you lend out your truck?

Today, the guy two doors down asked to borrow my truck.

I said that I don't lend it out. Suggested renting from Home Depot. Told him that I'd help him move the couch into his house.
He seemed displeased.

So, do you guys lend out your truck? Interested in hearing both sides.

Not a chance. The way I look at it is I put out my hard earned cash to by my truck, they can do the same.

I don't borrow stuff from other people and I also don't lend my stuff to other people.
It's just easier that way.

Lend out; not to a random guy but my buddies for sure. I think truck or any other vehicle is trivial compared to our friendship.

Only to very close friends, the type I would trust with taking care of my dog.

Never to passing acquaintances. My truck is my baby.

Depends to who. My friends sometimes. As a rule, no.

NOPE,NEVER, NADDA! If one cannot afford simple basic items in life/truck,
this is a good candidate of 'future burdens to follow'.

Also, consider your not just lending out your truck,
you are lending out your insurance should any accident unfold
courtesy of one Mr.Murphy & his laws.

I wouldn't lend my truck to the type of person that doesn't have a truck.

(probably the same type of guy that thinks it's ok to use my tax dollars as well...if you catch my drift)

If you live in the city and don't know many of your neighbors, buy a truck and park it in your driveway..

To friends of course I do. If a friend needs something I will bend over backwards to help them out. And vice versa. I guess that's why I don't know any of you...^.. Lol.

I know a few here well enough to say "NOPE!"
Seriously though , yeah to close friends
Someone down the road I barely know?
I'd offer to help him by driving the truck for him

Getting the truck back with an empty tank, garbage in the cab and dirty cured me from loaning it to relatives.

Very close friends treat the gear much better than family so close friends yes.

Family I will drive and help them pick up / move the stuff. Much easier on the blood pressure.

Would be great to hear a follow up to this thread in 10yrs to those
with no issue to lending their stuff out..Didn't take long for me to tire
of whatever i lent out, to be returned back in way worse & dishonorable condition..

I drive a Power Wagon. None of my friends can afford the fuel to run the pig.

Seriously though, to close friends I would. But my trucks not worth $60,000 and if it was I probably wouldn't.

Just tonight I gave the keys to my truck to a friend. He needs to pick up his 5th wheel from koocanusa. I am happy to be able to help. In 2010 my diesel motor blew up on our way back from camping. My family and I were stranded on the side of the road with a broke down truck, trailer and boat. Ama towed the truck but at that time we didn't have rv+. A couple of brothers who lived close by came to see what was going on offered there truck to me to tow my 5th wheel and boat back to Calgary. This happened east of strathmore and these were complete strangers that gave me there truck.

Family and close friends. Even then I'm picky. Depends on the circumstance etc. Some guy from two doors down that my only interaction with has been neighbourly I probably wouldn't. But would offer to drive it myself for whatever they need if I could. If they aren't a*^%#s and they can do whatever they need while I have the time. Just the way I am, but would never hold it against anyone who won't loan out a vehicle. It's an awful expensive thing, it's not like loaning a lawn mower or pressure washer.

Only if he lends out his hot wife. Really, is this guy a total moron?

Not to the type of person who would presume to ask.

I'll tell how it would go, the same way it goes when I lend the guys at work the rental truck, "oh that dent, scratch, and the tank full of diesel in the gas truck was already there" I deal with this kind of thing all the time, the audacity of these people, then they say to me, as a gf "I just wouldn't say anything if I was you" then I lose it and tell moron the trucks in my name, people who have nothing do not want to be held accountable when things go side ways. I would be astonished if this clown shoe even had a license, did you ever see it? It would sure suck to lose your truck for thirty days cause it was in the impound! And yes, one of the imbeciles I had working for me in Manitoba actually was stupid enough to get an impaired in a company vehicle, I've learned not to trust people until they earn it, I would suggest the same to you!

Default Lending things out

I tell all my friends that " if it has a motor in it, don't ask to borrow it", I do the same in return. Too many headaches.

If the guy doesn't have a truck, he doesn't need a truck. He will be money ahead to hire one when he needs it.
But I also would offer to drive the truck for him, because it pays great dividends to be helpful to your neighbours.

If you feel in the spotlight, when someone asked to borrow your truck, just tell them to notify their insurance before you hand it over, I never had a guy come back after that, and the kind gesture is there. I lent my truck and trailer to a friend, and he blamed the fact that he side swiped another truck with the trailer, on my trucks turning radius, to a group of people, funny thing is, they were dull enough to believe it! Still bugs me to this day. Imagine! Blaming human error on a mechanical device. Remember, many people will NOT own up to their mistakes!
