Need to be pull the trigger on a new instrument of ice fishing technology, which one would a guy be happy with LX-5 or a showdown 5.6? I want something simple and easy to use.
I own the showdown 5.6 and love it, It doesn't get any more simplistic, vertical look at the water, a small line is your hook and a think line is a fish, great for scouting and finding fish, all the options are easy to use and hassle free.
I now understand flashers more since i bought mine over a year ago, and don't find them as intimidating with the colours and what not, but still see no reason to switch as I don't fish any deeper than 50ft 99% of the time.
there is the dual beam showdown that has an 8 degree and 20 degree option, the 8 degree would be the obvious choice for cold lake but i personally have no experience in really deep water.

The Lx-5 also has the dual beam (8 and 20) option.
I preferred the extras that the lx-5 comes with.
It is from my understanding that the showdown can be upgraded, when such an upgrade becomes available from Marcum.
I chose the lx-5, but I believe you would be happy with both.

I love my Showdown 5.6 it's incredibly easy to set up and use, the battery life is excellent and I've never had any issues with it. You can easily see your own jig and if the water is deep enough you can see the jigs of others fishing in the same shack and of course the fish as they come in.
I should note that the majority of the fishing I do is in 60 ft to 100 ft of water.
