parasol emerger fly
Has anyone used parasol emergers?
I have not found any in a few stores in Calgary and the workers had not even heard of such a fly.
I found them online and ordered some.
They just arrived and can't wait to try them this season.
If you have used them...how do u like em?

I have had good luck using them later in the evening when the caddis are emerging. But having said that I used some of those mid day on the Elk River. At the time I had notices some green drakes that were coming off.

kelly glissmeyer invented the parasol flies. They are his go to's on spring creeks in the states. I've been meaning to try one, but always slips my mind at the vice.

Tried them a few years back but didn't find them any better than other styles. It may be just the way I fish but I found flies the the Paraloop or Klinkhamer style more effective.

Interesting pattern. I have never fished them. My go to emerger pattern is a soft hackle loop emerger.
So what type of parasol emergers did you buy? I can see this pattern should imiate bugs that congregate just beneath the surface film before emerging such as chironomids, some caddis and other bugs (cripples perhaps) that can't easily break the surface tension. I suspect it would be best fished in flat water.
This fly might be the ticket for those lake whitefish rising on those calm warm summer nights.

The one's I got are midge emergers in black, olive, red and white.
Ordered online from the "Fly Shack" USA
I am also expecting a few from "The Fishing Fly Box". Also online from USA.
At least I think it was from here. I ordered from so many sites....

The greased leader is a better option in most instances rather than the parasol as it's easier to control the depth of the presentation and I think that is why the parasol has remained a "niche" pattern where a more visible leader is detrimental to the presentation like on a very small spring creek. If you do try them be sure to degrease the leader between the fly and parachute.
