Default Mods should move this thread...

As it pertains to ice-fishing, not fly-fishing.

Ice fishing is forbidden on this lake in the hard water fishing season as it is Oggo Pogo breeding season!

We had a fly season in years gone by but too many lads got dragged into the lake. The Federal Folk put the brakes on it. I'm surrounded by girly *****s living here. If I had my way of things we would be cutting great slabs of ice out of Lake Minni and spearing these snake like monsters!

Only guys allowed under the ice are diver's.

It's pretty neat down there looking up at that ice.

Are there guides that do that? Scuba diving ice adventures?

Typically you have to do your dives through a dive shop. They have permission to leave a wall tent on the ice in winter for a warmup place and to cover the hole.

I was at Lake Minnewaka yesterday. We took our dogs for a walk and came back across the ice and up the boat launch. There was no sign of anyone diving this year at all. The only activity out there is a small area below the boat launch that the park has plowed off so people can ice skate.

I have dove in icy waters before. Man I can tell you from my personal experience that it is not something that I would recommend anyone trying anytime soon. There is nothing I enjoyed about it. From that day forward I vowed to only dive if the water was warm. I mean like Caribean warm.

Once the brain freeze goes numb, it's really not that bad lol.

It's actually a really cool experiance. I haven't been ice diving in a couple of years, but I'm hoping to go back in this year.

My worst ever diving experiance was ice diving though. Had a reg free flow at 80+ feet. Did a bunch of rope tugs which is the emergency signal for 'get us outta here', and the rope tender just fed out more rope.

I did an emergency ascent, dragging two divers tethered to me, and made it to the surface safe and sound. We had just hit bottom, so we ended up fine as far as nitrogen build-up. I was pretty upset with the tender, and it was a sobering experiance for all involved.

I went back down though, and still love it.

Most of the ice diving trips out at minni start in Feb/March. I dive with the Dive Shop on Macleod trail, although there are other outfits that you'll see out there.
