Bringing birch to BC?
Hey fellas, was wondering someone could point me in the right direction to find information about bringing wood to BC from Alberta.
I want to bring a small amount of dead birch to the coast to use for wedding decorations...but I don't want to break any rules or cause any harm!

Doesn't matter. If you got Alberta plates, they'll fine you for something.

drive normal act normal, the border crossing from bc to alberta is pretty heavily guarded, K9's and all that...
for real though you shouldn't have any issues, I've brought worse back and forth and never had any issues... try driving from Edmonton to Vancouver island with no insurance and plates from another truck... yeah every cop I saw was eying me up... or so I thought.

I sure wouldn't risk it. The effects could be CATASTROPHIC! Hopefully with some luck you can find some sort of government "something" that you can give some of your money too in exchange for a "permit." If not you should get lobbying towards there being a "permit" to ensure everyone, as well as the environment, won't be suffering from the effects of this dead birch you speak of.
To think, I'll bet there's some people that would consider taking "dead birch" to BC with zero thought as too who they should be consulting. Sickening.

Why take a chance of not just being caught but think of why we arn't allowed to transport firewood across borders. This spreads diesase quicker than any thing. Specially in dead wood.

Yup.
Considering how important the forest industry is to BC... it something that really gets some folks fired up.
Especially when it isn't exactly hard to find firewood there already.

Wonder how folks in the Ag Industry here would respond to a truckload of top soil from Newfoundland...
It is a problem... it's the proverbial guy with a bucket but instead of fish it's wood pests and plant diseases. I wouldn't bring firewood back from BC either.
How do you think the Asian Longhorn beetle which is native to China has managed to spread across Canada and the US so rapidly?

I don't think anyone would really care. I think albertans get the eyeball from the law because we look like we're missing a license plate to them and have a reputation as bad drivers.

There was an incident a few years back where a GP man transported pine beetle infested firewood back from BC. Wiped out all of the trees in the subdivision he lived in, ironically, the name of the subdivision was Pine Estates or something like that. I don't imagine his neighbours were too happy with him after that ;p

It's Ok, it's Canadian Birch...it's the american variety that can cause problems.
BC, imports chips from alberta at times for their pulpmills......I've known of fellows cutting birch into little kindling sticks and selling it, from BC, to people in Calgary and Edmonton....

The spread of disease and insects infestation is always the risk of traveling across the borders with firewood (or wood with bark still on it that hasn't been processed).
Where I come from in the Yukon, the spruce bark beetle has wrecked havoc on our forests and now we have the twin problems of dead trees and high risks of fires. The pic is taken from the Alsek Valley near Haines Junction. Please, I'm begging you not to transport any raw wood product across provincial boundaries.

Cost me 450 dollars to buy out my vivint contract i went with another compAny after vivint wouldnt send a tech to fix my system. Almost a year i paid for that system that was not covering my house . It took me forever to convince the high pressure disconnect clerk, a specialist they put you through to when you want to end your service. Just a few days ago a woman phoned from vivint saying i was 4 months behind in payment i said i had it disconnected 4 months ago and it cost me 450 bucks to do it. She said you cant do that we have to have the disconnect in writing. I said bs i do everything o er the phone with my pin number or password it was good enough for you to take my450 bucks. Then i hung up i wouldnt bet theyre finished with me. Im just lucky i happened to get a new credit card in the meantime or theyd be charging on it. When i signed up for the system they didnt want to go through my credit card they wanted my bank account. I said credit card or no deal. Also they have some kind of deal i couldnt believe with the bank the saleseman walks out of your house with all vivint needs to get into your bank account , no thanks i said even though i thought the whole thing was a pretty good deal which i suppose it is as long as it works but As far as im concerned they arent far above crooks
