Opinions on scope rings
Gonna be mounting a Bushnell scope with 1" tube and 44mm objective on my Remington 700 . Any suggestions ? Comments ?
Thanks.

I put talley rings on my hunting guns and near alpha mounts on long range rigs.

One piece Talleys are my go to mount/rings. Less parts the better IMHO.

I never had a single problem with Leupold 1 or 2 piece standard base and standard rings in medium. That's probably what I'd do for your set up.

Leupold dual dovetails.

I have a pair of Zeiss quick release mounts on my hunting rifle that work very well.

I bought the 700 VTR for the wife so it came with the rail. I am using Burris Zee rings on the scope. So far so good.
I had these same rings on a 30-06, a 22-250, and a 22 and they are working good on all.

I've always been happy with Burris zee rings for the price of them. Sturdy and haven't let me down yet!

I use a combo of Leupold, Warne, Talley and am pleased with all of them. Bushnell optics? .... not.

Haha. Yeah . Some don't like the Bushnell. Got a good price and although they are not tip top glass by no means , I have yet to have one let me down.

Do a "tracking analysis" on target and determine if they give you what you dialed in for as a comparison. Quality optics yield a 1/2" POI when you dial in a 1/2" POA. Bushnell optics will not yield that by my observations. I couldn't careless if an optics company advertises "Rainguard" or better light gathering. If it don't dial in, it's junk.
To me, price isn't the determining factor. Precision is. If you've spent $300.00 on a budget scope that won't dial in. You've thrown $300.00 out the window.
Many people determine quality optics on their light gathering capabilities at dusk or dawn. I don't. I determine my quality optics on tracking. Primarily because I am a target shooter, don't shoot at night. And even as a hunter, my optic choices that yield amazing tracking ability still yield me good vision of my quarry within legal shooting light.

Is tracking a priority on a hunting rifle? As long as scope holds "zero" its a big improvement over iron sights.

I have Talley Lightweights on both my rifles. Haven't had any issues with them. Not very expensive and lightweight.

My personal feeling is that when I dial in 24 clicks to the right in order to adjust 6" @ 100 yards and the POI has moved a mere 1.5", it isn't tracking properly. Thus I am not confident that it will hold zero either. I don't care to find that out by aiming for an animal's boiler room and hitting it in the hinds. In such a case I'd prefer to rely on irons. But hey, that's just me, to each their own.
