Default Trapper cabin Door

Hi all,
I am looking to get a new trapper cabin door built. Our cabin has been broke in the past so security is unfortunitely a concern. I want to get an internal door, but more importantly an external metal framed door with the internal hinges.

My best bet i realize is to get a welder to customize one, but if anybody has an example they want to pass along or has a door builder they recommend it would be much appreciated. Im located in Calgary.

Thanks for the help!!

We put a commercial metal door on our cabin. You can buy them at most building supply stores or order. They are super sturdy! They have an adjustable frame that you put together and lag into the wood frame. You have to paint them with tremclad or the like. There are no bolts or screws that can be taken apart from the outside to get in. It also comes with weatherstripping you screw onto the steel frame. Also we got the door with the deadbolt and knob locks. Haven't had any probelms with breaking in but you know the old adage....if they really want to get in they will but we are happy with the door..

Default Trap Cabin Door

Thanks Martinnordegg,

I like the idea of a single door with the metal frame!! Thats basically all we need. My problem is our cabin door isnt a "regular size" door as it is a bit smaller in size. Just the way the cabin is designed we cant really make modifications to it. I might have to look at getting a door custom built.

Thanks

met a man once who emptied out a fire extinguisher and filled it with the blue dye used for lumber in the mills, well he rigged it to his shacks door, and there was several teenage SMERF`s running around.NON lethal and very public lesson....LAUGHTER is good medicine,as well as good punishment.

We put a metal door on ours, opening outwards, so any inward force has the strength of the entire frame and not just the deadbolt area. This is also good for bears as they stand up and push. I had to shorten our door, which wasn't much of a problem. Narrowing the width may be a bit harder.

I built a complete metal frame and used heavy expanded metal to cover windows and doors. All are hinged to open and have locks. Keeps bears from pushing on glass . I also have my inside door opening out.

You can look for a solid core door too. Generally has a plywood veneer on the outside. It's very sturdy and can be cut down to size with a skillsaw.
Last I saw, Habitat for Humanity store on yellowhead and 82nd in edmonton had a few for cheap. I agree with having it open outward, more secure.

when i lived on the island i built a steel door for a store that used to get broke into often ... it was steel flame of 2x3 angle iron bolted thru the wooden frame with carriage bolt and acorn nuts inside .. then a simple steel frame door with heavy expanded metal fill in .. standard gate lock system ... they never got in again

then of course the wooden door inside of that ..
