I didn't have a lot of Mink on my line, most of the Mink I caught were taken in Marten sets. So I'll leave that subject to those with more experience.
If you find Muskrats you have probability found Mink. And they absolutly will spend time around any beaver ponds they come across.
The one thing I know for sure about Mink is they follow waterways, some as big as the Peace River and some so small they don't even look like waterways.
Find moving water and you have found the best place around to look for Mink sign.
The only simple way to catch a Fox or Coyote is with a snare, and even then it's not really simple. Only the set construction is simple.
But there a hundred little things that can make the difference between success and failure.
Things like loop size, loop height, guide placement, all can be critical.
Then there is human scent control. You won't ever eliminate it but there are tricks to reduce it to where the animal does not find it alarming.
Best to learn the basics by taking a course or finding a mentor, then we can offer some tips that will make sense.
For instance. make your sets when there is a storm approaching, or during a storm. It makes you scent and sign seem much older then it is. And it covers up your tracks.
