Default .20 Caliber

Looking at adding a rifle into the collection, I am considering a .20 caliber and unsure of the 20 VarTarg, 20 Tactical or 204 Ruger.

Inputs?

Brad

I am not familiar with the other two but I know a ton of people that love the .204 Ruger, if you're a handloader certainly consider the others if they offer an advantage.

Default .204 Ruger

Just for the simple fact of factory ammo availability I would go for the .204 Ruger. If you are hand loading go which ever way you want. I bought a .204 last winter and I love it.

Have to agree that it would be a lot easier getting 204 Ruger brass / loaded ammo than the other ones.

I will reload for it anyways so factory brass/ammo are not really a issue. I was looking for accuracy more that accessibility.

I have developed a wildcat that I call the 20 EXTREME. It will run 20 VarTarg Velocities or 204 Ruger velocities in a 24" barrel with 20.1-22.2 grains of powder using Winchester or Remington 222 Rem brass. As well the 40 grain bullets will fit easily in the magazine.

I have a Rem XR100 with Bartlein #8LV 5R barrel , a CZ 527 V with Kreiger #3 barrel, a Sako 75 with #3 contour barrel and a Sako 75 SS Varmint with PacNor Super Match barrel being built by RPS International in Spruce Grove. You could also have one built on your action to your specifications.

I have dies in stock and brass is easy to form. I have numerous loads developed and would be available to help. If you want accuracy and efficiency this is the caliber for you. Here are some targets shot recently with my CZ527 V Kevlar and 1-11" twist PacNor Super Match barrel.

Here are some targets shot with loads that I developed last summer.

More good groups.

Brass isn't hard to find for the 20 TACT (Dakota sells it) or the 20 VT. The 20 VT is just 221 or 17 FB passed over the 20 VT sdie and the 20 TACT is 223 REm brass if you don't buy the Dakota brass.
