When I bought my first 300 WM. I ended up with 10 or 12 boxes of factory Remington 180 Core-lokts. These shot so well out of my rifle (Sendero) that I tried to duplicate them. End result 180gr Rem Core-lokts, Rem Brass, Rem 9 1/2 mag primer and 71 grains of IMR 4350 (book load).
This load groups consistant 1/2" groups in the Sendero and sometimes a tad better. In My Colt Saur it ran about an inch. In my Rem Stainless laminate..under an inch. My Sako 75 will shoot as well as the shooter and I've ended up with some spectacular groups with it.
Now...does it work on game, after all it is the second least expensive bullet you can buy. Over the years I've only recovered 3 bullets (all the rest have been pass-throughs). All three were on quartering mule deer and all three retained over 80% of their original weight (wt retention is something I like)
I have never used a second shot on an animal I've shot with these bullets and I have shot a lot of game with them (W/T and Mule deer primarily. For moose and bears I use a .338. I need to justify owning it so thats what I use). I would not think twice about using the 300 on anything.
Normally I use Hornady and Speer bullets in my rifles, but this load worked so well from the beginning and shot so well out of several rifles, I've continued to use it for many years. Recently I have heard that the new Rem Core-lokts are different than they were so ....I don't have any experience with the new ones, if in fact, they are different. I'm down to 300 of the old ones, so I may find out before long.
