Default 300 win mag reloads

I finally saved up enough brass to start reloading the 300.Looking for a place or load to start with then finally tune them.Plan on using the imr 4350 i use in the 25-06.I am also looking at 150gr or 165 gr nosler Accubonds for lead.I picked up the identical rifle i have in the 25-06 in a m77 which i love.Looking at the reloading charts i should be able to get near identical velocites and drop with the 165 gr with a whole lot more kick(but i love it).Does anyone have any load info for the 300 looking at a place to start.Buddy says i should reduce the loads so he can handle it.Finally used up the 4 boxes of factory ammo and the results were less than desireable at the range.

Thanks

Federal Magnum primers
Nosler 180 gr Accubond
73.8 grains Reloader 22
OAL 3.455"

My 300 loves this combo. Can put 5 rounds into one ragged hole @ 100 yrds.

Default 300wm

This one is a little hot so start about 5 grains lower then work up for your rifle.( watch for pressure signs )

165 Nosler Partition
CCI 250 Primers
76.5 IMR 4350

Out of my A-bolt that gives you 3235 ft/sec-> groups are sub MOA
Sight in +2" @ 100yrds -> gives you zero at about 240-250yrds
Drops to -4" @ 300-310yrds
Drops to -30" @ 500yrds

DO NOT START AT MAX LOAD WORK YOUR WAY UP SLOWLY

The 300 Win mag I find is best with 190 to 200 grain bullets. If I were to shoot 165's, I would stay with a 30-06.

I use 72 g.r of IMR 4350 and 180 gr. accubonds with winchester primers. Also tried 180 gr. ballistic silver tips. Both work really well. Had to seat the bullet out a fair bit to get it tuned in. I started out with 68 gr., which were also very accurate.

I really like the way 168 gr Barnes TSX perform out of my 300 wm. It took a bit of tweaking with seating depth to tighten my groups and instead of IMR4350 I use IMR 4831. What impressed me about the Barnes bullet was the way it neatly punched through bone. I remember using 180 gr Barnes bullets in my 30 06 on a moose with poor results, shot animal in the front shoulder and took out the tenderloins. If I would of used a lighter bullet the results would have been different.

I googled the barnes site for loading data.

For me, 74.0gr of RL22 powder, Federal 215 Mag Primers with 180gr Accubonds. Incredible groupings at the range and great performance on big game at various distances.

190 - 200 gr bullets if you expect to shoot anything under a hundred yards. Though the premium bullets do hold up much better than the standard cup and core bullets, they still do have limitations. If you expect your shots to be over a hunderd yards, 165 premiums work well, although that is a bit on the light side. H1000 works well too. I got under 10 fps extreme spread with that powder using 180s and 21 fps extreme spread with my 200s.

be sure to look at the berger line of hunting bullets. Im very impressed with them. From what ive read.., they say with the magnums you have to stay up in the larger grained bullets to get very good accuracy. I shoot a tikka T3 and found that it didn't care much for the nosslers and the hornady's were okay.
I'm trying to develop a good round myself using these berger bullets 185gr VLD''s and IMR 4350. also thinking of trying H1000 but getting late in the year for all this.
good luck

Default .300 win mag load

I agree with the boys above. If you are going to shoot a 300, put the big boy bullets in to it or get rid of it. 180's as a minimum, the lighter bullets just don't work as well in the .300. 4350 is a good choice of powder for 180 nosler accubonds, when i reloaded with it i used near max. book, you need to develop your own.

have had good luck with hornady and 165 grain loads 4 rounds in a loonie at 100 yards have also heard that heavier loads work better but have had no problem using them on deer, elk or moose.
