Default Net Tether?

I was thinking about getting something like this to tether my net

I also see that there are some magnetic ones out there.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in Advance

To have my net handy and not be in the way of my casting, I have the breakaway magnet mounted to the top loop of my net and tied to the top back of my vest. I attached a foot of old floating line from the handle butt to a self reeling lanyard that is attached to the bottom corner of my vest. I'm able to reach back and grab the net with no problem. I've had it set-up this way for ten years with only the odd branch catch my net while I'm going through deep brush.

I like magnetic net keepers, you just need to get the two magnets close to have them connect and don't have to fumble with any catches. lots of different kinds of these.

This type works nice

I just bought 2 of these on ebay for the wife and myself. Haven't received them yet, but they have good reviews

I have one of the magnetic types (not the model shown) and I find that it works well.

If you are going to use the magnets, they are awesome if you use a net, make sure you use a tether even it is a shoelace. It took me two lost nets to figure it out.

Looks like a split decision on this one. I am about as bendy as a 2x4, and I don't think I'd easily get the magnets back together behind my back (my preference is to keep it on my back).
I'll try a retractable first, and if it doesn't work I'll have a retractable to use for something else while I try to get a couple of magnets to stick.

Thanks for the replies.

I actually flipped my system from what I have pictured and like it better. I attach the net magnet to the top of the open area of the net instead of the handle. It makes it really easy to hold the handle and bring it close to the magnet by my collar. The cord runs from the handle to my lower vest. A zinger is handy for this also. Let me know if anyone wants a pix.

I use magnets from a hard drive, never had them separate. One is tied to my vest via key ring, net handle is the same. When you pull the net down, the magnets slide apart. Works great and free.

If you are at all handy, Lee Valley has a good stock of rare earth magnets.

They are custom made by a guy down in California and he uses exotic woods for them and his nets. They are pricey but they are amazing and really work well.

I like the wood, I'll have to put something together like that.

My wife and I have had Rushton nets, made in BC for over 15 years. They are the 4 ply models and I also have a 2 ply model that I bought as a spare, that my son has been using occasionally. The 4 ply have exotic wood handles(rosewood and cocobola) and the 2 ply is maple.
Great nets, but they were pricey back when I bought them and I am not sure what they cost now as there is no price mentioned on his web site.
