Default Bear attacks deer in backyard

Ever heard a deer scream in utter pain and terror? Fair warning: it's rather unnerving. Crazy how much this sounds like a man. The cameraman's comment at 0:33 says it all.

So question: if this happened in your yard, would you get your gun or just let nature take its course? As the saying goes, nature is red in tooth and claw... but damn, it can be hard to watch.

Default Nature is fierce

As bad as it sounds, its the way nature has evolved. Most people feel that hunting is bad but nature is just as violent if not more so. We have to remember the premise of nature is sex and food for survival. Videos similar to this include being eaten alive.

My thoughts are; if my kids are watching and its bothering them, out comes the gun to scare each away. If not let nature take its course.

Everyone is on someone's menu!

A few years back I shot a young bull moose in November, he must have just left momma that summer as he was probably 2 yrs old, had antlers with forks just showing. When I shot him he dropped and let out a bawl that I never heard before or since. I felt it was like a cry for mom to help. To this day it is embedded in my brain. Really threw me. My son was maybe 12 and by my side and he remembers it too.

Rabbits screaming is another. Shot one and oh boy, you don't expect that to come out of them.

Default Deer noise

I've heard deer make that sound twice, once on a archery spine shot whitetail (oops) and once with a mule deer and a deflected .243 bullet that hit a leg ( oops, again). Very unnerving.

Assuming I lived in a rural area, I would get my rifle and shoot ... but not the bear.

I would shoot the deer to put it out of it's misery.

Bears gotta eat too, eh.

Exactly! I said the same thing a few years back when it was deer and wolves- or was it coyotes?

So there's two big game animals (aka food sources) in my yard, and it's a philosophical debate??

I'd shoot em both....I gotta eat too.

I have heard a deer emit a sound very similar to that, eerie sounding. A buddy and I were riding our ATVs down a trail along a fence line when we came across a doe entangled in the fence. Her hind leg had caught in between the top two strands of barbed wire, which then twisted as she went over. A quick snip with some wire cutters and she was on her way, no worse for wear.

Or horizontal, for that matter. Vertical videos should be punishable by bear maulings.
