Default Wanna do something nice for a young Hutterite Hunter?

Hi guys. Reading all the BS about those vegans invading a Hutterite farm in Southern Alberta, I thought of a small way to counter the stupidity. On opening weekend, Pixel Shooter and I hunted at a colony east of Edmonton and stayed overnight with them, as I have an older fellow who is good friends with all of them. Anyhow, we were joined on our hunt by a young Hutterite who was on his first goose hunt. As Hutterites do not get a paycheque, he had worked some odd jobs for neighboring farmers, after his work on the colony was done, to earn some cash to buy an old pump shotgun, a licence, and some shells. He was in 7th heaven on that hunt. He sat next to me and the smile on his face couldn't be wiped off with bleach.

I thought it would be a great thing to put out the word for forum members who may have waterfowl/hunting stuff they do not use, or is cluttering the garage, to donate to this young guy. I am going to refinish his shotgun for him this winter as it is a Model 1200 that has seen better days (it is a full choke that also needs to be opened up so he can shoot steel safely, but I didn't want to rain on his parade with that just yet). If there are decoys, an old layout blind, camo clothing, calls etc... that you'd be willing to part with, I can pick it up if you are in the Edmonton area. Of course, I will take pics, and post them when I drive out to present him with the stuff, lest you think I am stocking my shelves. LOL.

I think this would be an awesome way to show our support of Hutterites in general, and particularly a young father who has caught the waterfowl bug.

Instead of sending PMs, just chime in on this thread.

He's a Large size for clothing.

Thanks for reading.

Finally, do not post negative stuff in any fashion, as some already have felt the urgent need to do. I am not looking for a discussion, I am trying to do something nice for a good young man, and looking for stuff that is gathering dust, and is of no use to people anymore. If you think it is a stupid idea, move on. But do not post all your reasons this is a bad idea as some have already felt the need to do. It will be treated as a troll post if you do.

Just curious , what colonie is this exactly , from what I understood firearms and hunting were strictly forbidden . I could be wrong or it could be just the colonies I heard of .

Good on you for taking him out. But I think you may be opening a can of worms. Be ready to outfit his 10 buddies too. Just my opinion.

I had left a bunch of stuff back in Sask at my old man’s place when I moved to AB last fall. Not sure when I’m headed back there again but I’m sure I have an old coffin blind kicking around there. What about Camo clothing or does he have to hunt in the black Hutterite attire and black hat? Lol. What size would he be for clothes?

I have always been treated by any Hutterite I met with the greatest respect and have returned it in kind.
I’m sure we can work something out

I was thinking that while I am refinishing his stock, you may be able to open up his choke so he can shoot steel

It's probably best that I don't post what colony, unless you are donating, then I would be happy to tell you via pm. We did have a nice conversation where we talked about colonies that are very strict vs colonies that are a little more relaxed. He feels his is one of the more relaxed ones relatively speaking, but the particular Minister has a great deal to do with that aspect of life. He hung out with us, shot the breeze, and came hunting. He made it clear that he would not be allowed to do what he did on the majority of the colonies in Alberta.

I will be heading up a week from today from the states.

I will dig through some stuff and see what I can find. I will shoot you a PM with my location and we can see if we can make it work logistically. The Hutterites have been so generous toward us when hunting up there in the past that I would love to give something back to a colony.

Any idea what size for clothing. I’ve got a surplus of camo that I’m sure I can part with a few items.

I don’t have any gear, but I’d be willing to pitch 20.00 to go towards some.

Did you say colony? Ahem.

I just have away an older Browning Auto 5 in great shape he would have been welcome to S. I have some assorted 12 gauge ammo, 6 to BB, and quite a few 7.5 20 gauge handloads if that helps.

Should have a couple of calls kicking around as well.

Funny question and who told you colonies don't have firearms? If they have livestock they almost always do. Pigs and cattle are tough to strangle.

You're mostly correct but some ministers may turn a blind eye to it. I know they buy a lot of galvanized aircraft cable for making snares to trap coyotes. So, they generally are favourable to hunting.

Good on ya. The Hutterites are good people. May stick to their own but they cause no grief. I have received permission from them a few times to hunt their land and has always been a positive experience. The group I deal with does hunt and they also apply for special licences. They typically don’t like a million deer or elk trashing their fields. I do not hunt geese but I will look around for other odds and ends that may be useful for ya.

Got some stuff ready to get to you sometime for your young Hutterite friend. The jacket is pretty much brand new. Hat is brand new with tags still and the face mask and neck warmer have very little use as well. Shoot me a PM and we can meet up somewhere sometime. I head back to work this Thursday for a couple weeks.

Could he use some game hunting gear as well? I have some entry level bino’s, brand new in wrapper tree stand harness, brand new cheaper trail cam and maybe a few other goodies I can donate.

I've got a case of three inch number 2's. Plus some calls. How do you want to round this stuff up? If he needs 2 3/4 I have a case of them as well.
