Default Thoughts on WMU 346

Hi , everyone. Im looking for any info on WMU346. My friend is asking me to travel there to help him with his Moose tag. Ill ill have is my general White-tail and supp tag #1. I see that there is a general 3-point elk tag as well. Does anybody know what the chances are to see elk in this zone? we are going the 19-27th sept. Any help would be appreciated as I need to make a call soon whether I'm going or not

a good way to pretty much ensure you see a 3 point is to go without a tag, LOL....I haven't hunted that area for years, but it used to be pretty good, go and enjoy....

Been working out that way quite often this year and have seen plenty of deer, elk, and moose. Certainly worth the trip in my mind.

Don't be rediculous, there's NO elk there, they've all migrated to Saddle Hills.

WMU 346 has over 1000 hunters with tags each year so hunted very hard. Moose and elk harvest numbers have dropped off significantly over last 3-5 years. Lots of wolves and bear putting pressure on the ungulate population.

From my experience in 346 is that there is a lot of hunters and most the elk I've seen is on private land. I stay away from 346 mainly because I bow hunt and that opens for rifle on the 17th. I do know a good area for moose and decent for elk which is Crown. PM me if you have trouble finding a moose, im out that way lots and know a few decent places you could try out.

I near Windfall gathering some roots a couple of weeks ago, it was crazy the amount of trees that have been havested inbthe last year. Parts that used to be forest look like farms fields.

Not even close to what it once was I grew up hunting that zone. Incredible amount of pressure 24 hours a day deforestation on a scale hard to imagine to much easy access. wolf numbers and other predators way up not enough trapping etc. Still game in areas but harder and harder to fill tags sad but it is what it is. I see Sharp tail grouse all over out there now where dense forest used to be.

Tough to find elk in the crown there. Lots of bear and moose in the crown though. I don't find it's that busy. Been out last 2 weekends and only seen 2 or 3 hunters.

I moved my camp out of the windfall area do to the logging and noise and a certain hunting party that can shoot what they want.

Problem with346 is we get more than our share of outsiders because we are close to the city and we get shot up a lot

I agree there. It’s amazing how many wanna be road warriors you see drive by elk and not even know. It’s an incredible zone for big game keep areas quiet and you will have an area almost to your self we have called in a lot of small elk this year first time we haven’t seen anything worth shooting. But numbers are excellent and moose numbers are getting better every year

Default wmu 346

WMU 346 was one of the main go to areas for Edmonton hunters. Now zone has to much logging, oil activity, 24/7 hunters, grizzly/black bears and wolves. You will need to work hard and long for any moose or elk unless you know some farmers on fringe areas.

Honesty question why would move because of Indigenous hunters?

Because they can shoot anything anytime anywhere and sometimes they move in with lots of hunters and clean out areas
