I wonder if the guy walking in front of the truck could see the metal bending or hear the creaking of the deck or see the big sag the vehicle put on the bridge. Good thing for the driver it went straight down

That's why we have engineers, they're supposed to head this off at the pass. Somebody obviously screwed up.

Reminds me of a Calvin and Hobbs sketch: "Dad, how do they know the load rating of a Bridge?" "Well son, they build the Bridge, then they drive heavier and heavier trucks across until it breaks. Then the re-build the Bridge and rate it for the last truck that drove over safely"

That would be the bridge into Sundre. It's weight rating is exceeded regularly.

Calvin and Hobbes and Bloom County were the best comic strips ever.

Wouldn't take an engineer to look at that bridges construction to know it was going to fail.

Guy was obviously going way too slow for that bridge...hard to believe stuff like this still happens, what with all the pre-planning, planning, safety meetings, pre-job safety meetings, more safety meetings, hazzard assessments, right to refuse unsafe work...
