Best Sights for a Model 94
I've been entertaining the thought of doing the majority of my rifle hunting with an Iron sighted 30-30, the buckhorns that are on there are decent but was wondering what kind of improvement I could make be it a ghost ring or peep system, and which brand would be the better choice.

Ghost ring tang sight would be my choice.
IIRC, ~$125.
Good Luck, YMMV.

Williams adjustable peep. No need to change front sight, selection of aperature sizes for target to hunting. Most 94s are already drilled to accept them.

skinner sights also make decent peep sights. Got them on all my levers and a 10/22.

I have a skinner on a 45-70 guide gun. In my opinion needing to switch out the front sight is an issue and the lack of adjustabilty is another. Not a bad sight xfor 50 yards but not a great sight for shooting 100 yards plus with any degree of accuracy.

Dean, I agree with you about the front sight needing to be swapped out is a pain, and the skinner set up needs more "manual" sighting in (possibly filing down front sight, new front sight, moving front sight side to side possibly etc....as opposed to just using the adjustments on the Williams). But once all that is done, is there any other reason why a Skinner would be less accurate than a Williams? I've never shot a William's aperture sight before.
Thanks

The biggest things is that with a williams you can mark elevations for 100, 200 & 300 yards and adjust the elevation for those distances with the elevation knob. With a skinner it is all hold over past where you have it zeroed.

Several years ago, I put a Lyman on a 94. It looked a bit like the Williams. Came with two apertures. After I got it sighted I found it shot well with no aperture installed. I wish I still had that little rifle.

I was digging through a box of odds and ends and found a Williams aperture sight that looks a lot like the one that Dean2 posted in his picture. I thing (but I'm not sure) that it's for a 94. It has 2 holes for side mount about 3/4" apart. I have no use for it as I prefer Marlin levers. Anyhow, if it fits a 94, you guys can make me an offer and anything reasonable for a good deal, it's yours.

I bought an XS sights ghost ring for mine. I don't have it installed yet but it looks very robust and smooth so it will be unlikely to catch on anything and move.
