Default Powder info needed!

Hey guys I'm new to reloading and have bought few types of powder because well it's new and confusing to me so was hoping could get some input on the best powder to use with hornady vmax 55gn 223 for bolt action rifle. Thank you in advance. Tom

If you dont have a loading manual i highly suggest you get one. Lots can be learned about reloading from reading the information provided in the front of the book not just the loads that you seek. To keep it simple if you plan on loading vmax i would recomend the hornady manual. As always start low and work up.

Here's a couple of links to sites with data for you - make sure you bookmark them.

As far as the 223 I've not loaded for it but have for 222 Remington and I've had great success with IMR 8208XBR and Ram Shot X-Terminator. Seems to me H4198 might be good and I think I saw on the bottle of IMR 4166 that it is used in the 223. I'm sure some of the guys shooting 223 will chime in but that will get you started

I hear CFE223 would be a good choice... The name says it all.

To find the most accurate load for your rifle, you will probably need to do some trial and error. I have had good luck in my 223rem rifles using CFE223 ,Benchmark , Varget , IMR 4064, and N-133
