Default Neat way to store reloads

Lately I have noticed that a pile of old beer boxes has been buildin up in the basement so I got to thinking about ways to recycle them.

First I unfolded the boxes and traced out the perimeter from an old American Eagle .223

[IMG][/IMG]

Then cut out

[IMG][/IMG]

Fold the edges the same as the factory box

[IMG][/IMG]

And finally glue and tape together

[IMG][/IMG]

It doesn't take long to complete and gives a neat look in my opinion. I made all of these in under an hour

[IMG][/IMG]

I averaged about 3 ammunition boxes per beer box with .223 size. A few quick tips
-Put the matte cardboard finish to the outside to write info on
-Glue as well as tape to ensure they don't come undone
-Make first cut-out a template to recreate perimeter without the folds.

Looks like I'll have to go buy some more beer boxes to try other calibers.

Just be warned that long term storage could result in corrosion... i got austrian hirtenberger ammo from 1980's, it was cardboard wrapped and then sealed in a rubber vacuum pack. Each and every brass cartridge was corroded where it had been resting against the cardboard box. Maybe it was something in the air locked inside the rubber pack, but either way.... i was disappointed by the storage result.

At least. Gonna have to trade my plastic boxes for beer. I wonder how many boxes a guy can get out of the Costco mega size box of lucky lager.

Haha, only one way to find out! Really cool idea, one hobby that supports the other hobby, plus scissors are safe to use when drinking, right?

I would never criticize a guy for his hobbies but at 3 or $4 a pop I think I will stick to MTM. Maybe Ziploks if I get real hard up.

My other option is discarded 223 ammo boxes are free. The Police throw out hundreds of them at the SPFG range..

Just before the regular late summer 'sight-in & test for hunting season',
I put out a large box at my range with a sign requesting deposit of empty shell boxes and inserts and fired brass, for the benefit of needy re-loaders.

It was a great help and saved a lot of dumpster diving.
The nature and volume of stuff shared, indicated some had been saving for many years, and just didn't want to see it go to waste.

Good Luck, YMMV.

Yes I regularly don't do this kind of thing and prefer the plastic but just tried something new and free to change things up a little bit.
