What is your favourite hunting bullet in medium 6.5’s?

I’m curious what is working well for everyone in the medium capacity 6.5’s such as 260, 6.5x55, and the creedmoor size cartridges.

What works for you, and what size of game have you had success with. On the flip side, any bullets you would recommend to avoid for hunting situations and why. Everyone has what works for them and I am interested to hear what you have to say.

The 130 Accubond and 129 Accubond Long Range have worked well on deer and moose, out of the 6.5x55.

For cup and cores For years I always used either the 160 Sierra SMP's or 140 grain Game Kings in my various 6.5's
The last 20 or so years I have been shooting annd loading for others the 120 grain Barnes TSX or TTSX.
Thiiss includes a few 260 Rem's, several 6..5/284's, 6.5X55's and 6.5 Creedmoors and a couple of wildcats.

I tried the 130 tgk this past year. Seem to work well and priced at $50.00/100 was nice. Shot 3 deer broadside with pass throughs.

127gr Barnes LRX for close shots and 130gr Sierra gamechangers for longer distances in my 6.5 creedmoor. I’ve only used the LRX’s on deer so far. No complaints. Both bucks I shot walked about 30 ft and fell over. Lots of internal damage when I opened them up.

I’ve come to prefer mono bullets for hunting. I have had good luck with the TTSX line in the past. I find there is less meat damage and I have never encountered disappointing penetration with the Barnes. That being said, this year I’ll be using Hammer Bullets and Cutting Edge in the 125gr weight range. Looking forward to see how these pan out.

I was shooting the 142 sierra's for target shooting. 140 Partitions for deer after that. Now i shoot the 160gr woodleighs. All three very accurate out of my swede.

For moose under 200 yards or bush pushing a 156-160gr SP over 42gr of either IMR4350 or N-204
With 130gr Scirocco 2 47gr of RE#22 for deer
For 140gr Partition all sane game 47gr RE#22
The 156-160gr load is safe in Swedish 38/96 mauser the other are for modern or model 98 rifles so use at own risk or work up your own loads.

I've been using Hornady GMX in 120 GR in my 6.5 Creedmoor. 2 shots, 2 deer last year - both bang-flops. I like the mono-copper bullet, because in our area, eagles often feed off the gut-piles, and I don't want them ingesting lead fragments.

I’ve had good luck with a 143g ELDX using my creedmoor on deer and bear

I have currently two in 6.5x55. A Husqvarna M38 and a Ruger MKII

Have shot Moose, Deer, Yotes & Antelope over the years with them.

I have tried many factory rounds and many more handloads.

Loaded various Nosler's, Sierras , Bulk Remington, etc.

Hornady 160 grain RN is still my first choice.

6.5x55 T3

Have used a few different bullets but the most accurate and very effective on game has been the 130gr Accubond over 48gr RE22 for just on 2800fps. 140gr Accubond factory ammo shoots very well too, just haven't used it on game yet. Unfortunately getting hellishly expensive.

Just worked up a load with 127gr LRX also over 48gr RE22. That might become my new go-to in the 6.5 Swede, although the 130gr Accubond is very hard to beat.

The Hornady 140 gr, Interlock, with 47gr of re 22, grouped well in my Steyr 6.5x55 so that is the bullet I went with. Did take a nice cow elk and several deer. Price of these is tough to beat....

That combo shoots very well for me too in a Tikka

more than 1 260 around here so most of the game last few yrs been harvested with it or its big brother, 6.5rm.

the 260 mostly 120ttsx - it will makes 2 holes in mule deer and cow elk to 350yrds(maybe more) this year the ruger was out and it liked the 120fusions, found in off hide cow moose 250 yrds and exited cow elk at 225.
the 6.5 rm uses 130 swift s2 and 130 accubonds so far. really like the swifts hit hard and accubonds work good on deer for sure, shot a decent bull moose with the accubond too, but he was waaay out there and needed another one when we got close enough to be comfortable.

haven't fine tuned a 260 handload yet but would load the 130 accubonds, and use a 127lrx as an all round load and not worry about anything. I like speed so the 140 not fast enough for me

the 260 that got my mule deer shots smallest groups with 123 sst and h4350 so far, but don't feel the need to use on game as its a softer bullet and have read a bit that they have a few failures and don't like hitting bone.

Used 143 ELD-X in one 6.5 CM on a big Mule Buck @ 400 yards and a Mule Doe @ 150 yards, worked well both times.
Loading 129 Interlocks with H4350 for my Nephew's CM, had 2 boxes I got for cheap from Hornady with their Promo they run. They group really well on paper and he's taken 3 White tail and a Mule deer between 120 to 300 yards. They worked very well in each case, 2 DRT and 2 run 50-100 yards, all pass through's.
