Default Saskatoons

Anyone seen any ripe berries yet this year? I had a nice picking patch north of Kitscoty but it’s a bit of a drive since I have moved to the big city. I don’t mind driving if there’s worthwhile picking at the end.

Any other patches of saskatoons you are willing to share?

Early July?!? Seems a bit optimistic...

I have several bushes at the lake, one was ripe last weekend, others still green. Talked to my sister in sk she said she had some ready as well but not all. Definitely a shock to me as mid to late July has been my normal.

With the warm weather we had this spring I thought some might be ready. Might be worth the gamble to take a Sunday drive.

Between the robins and the black birds mine are all gone. Did get a few berries before the bandits showed up. Nan king berry's are picked and in the freezer as well, will be a few more once the ones in the shady spots ripen up.
Not as many berries this years as last unfortunately.

I have three small bushes with half the berries ripe and large. Doing very well. Picked a bunch today in case the hail comes tonight or tomorrow.

Had a good trail ride out at Cougers patch by Duvernay. Stopped numerous times on the trail for a good feed. Still lots of green and light purple ones though

Yep. My younger daughter and I ate the first few berries about two weeks ago. Plenty by now. Some spots have already been picked naked. Some have plenty of green berries still (but that is how it usually works). Drove today in the evening to a spot with the kids and some ******* cut most of the branches of, appears to have happened in the past few days. Branches are not there either, just trimmed bush. Not sure wtf is wrong with people.

In Calgary and the wild Toon berries in the yard are doing great.

The Tall bushes are mostly ripe, big and plump. No bug loss.
The short bushes are still very green.
Sunlight seems to be the reason.

Calahoo area I’ve got some ripe ones. But the ones that don’t get as much sun aren’t quite there yet.

Yeah we took the dog for a walk along the bow river in Calgary last weekend and couldn't believe we were able to snack on a few ripe berries!

I have some ripe ones but had a massive die off of my more mature wild Saskatoons. They mostly look like Dr Seuss trees and I think had been eaten down to nubs for the 30 th time and died over the winter. I wonder what kind of harvest I could get if every new shoot wasn't eaten to a nub by a cow moose. Red willow is their favourite? Whoever says that doesn't have the two side by side

Picked some this week along a creek I was fishing, beside a black bear who was doing the same thing. Not many ripe yet, soon.

Friends have a farm by St Paul, their Saskatoon patch is still developing. Be a few weeks before the berries get close to ripening up there. Even the resident bear has not come around to check them out yet.

The wood from the branches left make good wood for smoking meat. At least maybe it won't be a complete waste for you.
