Default Send it in or not?

So I caught a nice looking coyote yesterday with a real nice thick pelt.

Then I turned it over.

There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that it'll grade DGD and I'm not really concerned with the little bit of money that it'll bring, but it seems a shame to toss it in with the shoulder mite dawgs and burn it. I don't have time to tan it so that's out. I know that there's a market for these guys and I'm sure that a fur buyer would love to buy this pelt at a bargain basement price, especially when he doesn't want the belly fur anyway.
So what say ye......Put it up and do some fur buyer a favour or toss it?

Toss it. That's the best option.

Cut it out, sew it up and send it. That's not the hair they are after anyways.

You are correct in the fact that this isnt the fur that they use .. however I have sold coyotes long enough and you probably have to , to know that anything that can be used against you to soften the price will . Just like selling a calf with a frosted ear or missing tail . The buyers pull it out of the draft its in and then buy it when it comes back around for a greatly reduced price .. No the ears or tail isnt getting used in this case either but it will bring the price down . I had a beauty of a coyote this year identical to the one that Dave pictured .. I didnt skin him , not worth the time or effort .

I have a hard time wasting any fur. Skin it and freeze it then tan it when you have time.

Yup I can make a baseball sized hole disappear but i’m thinking that this one will grade DGD whether it’s sewn or not. I put it up today but there was more white belly hair loss when I washed it. I just couldn’t bring myself to toss it.

At some point I’ll rehydrate it and do a little surgery to see how it turns out. It would only take me about 30 minutes to repair but the problem is that if I cut out 4” and there’s only 2” of gap in the board at that point (1” front and 1” back) it won’t fit back on the board. Maybe i’ll figure something out.

A part of me would love to send it to auction as is just to see what it would sell for. I’m pretty sure that i’ll tan it and give it to my favourite Inuit lady though.

PS. What’s going on with that yote, Marty? It didn’t stink like mange and it was just in that one area. No red belly either. Rubbed, mange that’s healing, alien abduction?

Could be some kind of injury. The baldness could be caused from him licking it.

It's garbage for auction and I'll eventually home tan the back portion. That's the best option.
