Default Dog Training Partner/Opportunities

Hey everyone,

Back in good old Edmonton, Alberta after a few years in Vancouver. Unfortunately, my dog training friends have all either moved on or are too busy with young kids these days (very fair).

I'm looking if anyone is interested in (or already) doing training drills with labs in the Edmonton area. I have a four year old black female who's a hunting rockstar. Never done any formal hunt tests but she retrieved 650+ birds last season (lotta good Saskatchewan waterfowl/upland days and some decent Alberta ones) and has had equally productive seasons since she was a little puppy.

We do a lot of drills/work throughout the off season but it gets old throwing/hiding the dummies yourself. I do have access to a zinger flinger, but same thing, walking out over and over again to load it up gets old.

I'd also be interested in helping out if anyone is training pointing dogs. Also more than happy to toss dummies or help someone out if they're training up pups for the upcoming season.

So yeah, if anyone in the Edmonton area is already training and needs a hand/partner or is interested in it let me know.

Best is to get into local dog clubs here. You have options for hunt test with ACHRA or Wildrose for field trials. Both have access to grounds. Many of us set up little training groups. This time a year is tough lol but come spring I’m usually out 4-5 x a week getting ready for competitions. Bird hunter here first and foremost but breed, judge and compete with labs so time bird season rolls around the pups are in tune

I would second that recommendation.
The people at the ACHRA club are doing exactly what you are looking for all the time. Just meet up and join a training group!

Smile Welcome to the addiction!

You have a lot to ffer and you will meet loots of new friends in any of the clubs in Edmonton. In a past life I was travelling to CKC field trials all over the west from spril to the fall. It was a great healthy life.

If you don't smoke you can live a very long time.

If hunt tests are your thing, I'd recommend ACHRA. Good people, and put on lots of training days where you are able to meet other club members.

Wild Rose is a field trial club. Great if that is what you are looking for.

Both have nice grounds.
