Default Bolt Action 7.62x39

Hey there folks

Wondering what the opinions are on a 7.62x39 bolt action, and what we have available in Canada?

I have more than enough ammo to shake a stick at, so I would like to get a bolt action in the same caliber.

Wondering what the options are or if there are any crowd favorites out there.

Not looking for a different caliber as I said before, I have a bunch of ammunition in this caliber.

Thanks!

They’re fun! I have taken a ton of deers with mine. I have a Norinco Jw103- bush ranger and it’s a pleasure to carry.

The Howa and CZ get good reviews.

I'm pretty sure you can get a Ruger American in a variant or two in it as well.

yes, the ruger american and ruger american ranch, the ranch has a 16" barrel, the american a more traditional length

i like the howa metal...but everything else that surrounds them including the magazines are not my thing, so i'd be looking at the cz527's and rugers imo, even though the howa's are very accurate and have good adjustable trigger...the magazine and bottom plastic is crap, it's better in an mdt chassis build but still let down by the magazine

CZ 527. Has a mini Mauser action that is smooth as butter and a neat trigger that has a normal pull, or if you push it forward the trigger becomes a very light 'hair trigger'.

Edit: Shoots dirty surplus ammo decently , about 2.5" @100 yards (if i remember right) and better with federal ammo..

Better know as a single set trigger, and you can adjust the amount of " hair ".... FS

Thanks folks.
I’m trying to figure out of its worth putting optics on, or if I can just get some nice peep sights on the firearm for while pushing bush. Any input?

Leaning towards the howa or the Ruger American or Ranch series-but finding them hard to locate.
know of anyone who is selling them in western Canada?
Ideally I’d love a stainless barrel and/or wood stock, but that’s really just wanting to diversify the look of my collection a bit. More concerned with reliability and accuracy out to about 150.

try prophet river firearms, my ranch grendel is on way now, i understand they just got a shipment of ruger stuff so likely have what you want

stainless just not an option yet anywhere, would love to see sako 85 get in the game with their 223 length xs action and give us some high end options including stainless

but a ruger stainless would be pretty sweet also, they're more likely to offer that option than anyone else would be my guess, one day perhaps

Mine easily cuts 1/2 with handloads.H4198 or the IMR version is the powder for 123gr bullets. You can also load .311 150gr Sierras /H335 and get under an inch for the bigger stuff like bear/moose .Odd as it may sound mag primers with the same powder charges cut groups by near 50%

Only merit of this cartridge is cheap ammunition and that is rapidly disappearing.

Got excellent accuracy with Reloder 7 in both the Zastave and the 527 and the 123gr SP bullets, still trying to figure out where the 123gr SST's went to.......lol

Default other powders

Win 748 and RE#7 were also acceptable.Three gr of Bullseye and a 90gr cast Tokarev pistol bullet worked well for chickens.

I should buy some new brass, this is a fine shooting and easy loading rifle I have, plus I have a monster jug of 748 powder
