Hey nube,
There are many different methods for making coyote lure and just about everybody has their own "special" formula that works. You can also buy it from Trappers Supply stores like ****kers in Edmonton. Here is one from the Alberta Trappers Training Manual:
- 5 pounds rotted horse meat (I'm sure any rotten meat would work)
- 20 drops Tonquin (Asiatic) musk (can be ordered from a drug store)
- and enough glycerine to make a paste
This lure is especially effective during cold winter months. By adding fish oil and coyote urine you will have a lure for year-round use.
There are a couple others as well in the manual that you can purchase from the Alberta Trappers Association if you wish.
You can use a deer carcass (road kill) only if permission is given by your Fish and Wildlife office. It is considered "Found Dead Wildlife" as written in the hunting regulations. Do not use deer as bait without permission . . . you could find yourself with a lot of explaining to do.
Hope this helps,
Rob
