Not sure what you're "Hunting" for Dave. Hope you find it because your anger towards the ATA borders on pathological. I find it comforting that you've chosen to distance yourself from the organization.
However...I do support you venting to the group because it'll help you deal with your suppressed feelings. It is unfortunate you were raised by mink farmers who confined you in a birthing pen for four years. But life goes on and you need to let that go.
And in the meantime you just keep on refusing to join the ATA. Somehow the organization will struggle through. The sad truth is not everyone is cut out to be a member. Some folks just don't have the intellectual capacity to see the future. But the good news is you are one of a few.

My, how eloquent Mr Bildson. Would you care to elaborate on why you think jacking up the licensing costs for Trappers to $75 and $300 is great for Trappers or is verbal diarrhoea all that you have to bring to the table?

My years of trapping are done, I have no dog in this fight.
Yet it saddens me to see what is happening to trapping these days.
With ever more registered lines going to non trappers looking for private hunting preserves while prices drop ever lower and costs climb, I worry that the life I loved may not last much longer.
I can appreciate the desire to self regulate, but it makes no sense if it goes the road that APOS took. And I have to say it looks to me like that is where this is going.
For me what is even more alarming is the way some here have responded to concerns.
Nasty below the belt comments and name calling were the tradmarks of those who have no Legitimate counter argument.
I really disappointed with you Brian, I expected more of you.
You may have good reason to dislike Dave or the stance he has taken but that does not justify the comments you made.
If we can't be civil with each other we will absolute get torn apart by the anti trapping sentiment in the general population.
Remember guys, this site is public, what we say can and often does show up on google searches.
What we say today can come back to bite us where it hurts, long after we forget what we said.
Sorry for preaching to you guys. I don't want to but even more I don't want to see trapping destroyed from the inside.

Trappers in the south had a really good long talk with Bill Ambercombie last night, an allot of stuff was cleared up. The future of trapping in Alberta is looking really good. Bill is wanting an welcoming any an all concerns to be presented to him an the board nothing is final. A vote will be the final when all the details are worked out. This is a process an he said many times he needs input to make things right. This is what can happen when adults have a talk an voice concerns.

You say one thing on this forum and later say this on another forum:
“we don’t know the cost cog licenses yet until we have a firm grasp of the current government program”.
Just be upfront and let Trappers decide.

Should this fee get to the $300 vicinity, it would be very interesting to know how those that "condone" this increase are able to justify it...All we have to do is take a look at their "trapping operations", in some instances, to realize there is more under the pile of fur, than meets the eye.. Maybe for the same reason why some politicians have not released their tax info....maybe....????

I have a little spare time today so I think that I'll send an email to the Minister of Environment and Parks, the Honorable Jason Nixon at aep.minister@gov.ab.ca and CC my MLA to express my disappointment with the ATA trying to take over the licensing and jacking up the cost.
If you want to have a voice on this issue I'd suggest that you do the same. I'm not about to hand over my hard earned money to the ATA year after year without at least trying to stop it from happening. If that's what you want to do then doing nothing is the right way to go about it.

Do what ever you feel you need to do but we don’t need to hear about it every time you are going to write an email I don’t think most people care what you think, I am going to go to the meetings and voice my displeasure about the proposed increases, your little vendetta against the ata is getting real old.

Maybe they should make it a priority that all Alberta trappers should be members of the ATA. It could be a part of your license fee.

Who is it that you think cares about what you think? I certainly don’t.
And who do you imagine the “We” are that you think that you speak for? Using the word “We” instead of “I” is a sign of weakness.
What’s really nice to see is the ATA membership finally resisting the money grabbing madness. Too bad that it’s only because it effects them directly. Maybe it’ll give people pause to think what the ATA has been doing to new Trappers for years, but I doubt it.

Guys, nobody that I know on our trapping forum is a MD to prescribe medication to anyone. Dave is a very balanced trapper with his own strong views on trapping in Alberta. Every opinion should be respected.

Yes every opinion should be respected but he is obsessed and it get a little old honestly If he is so concerned why doesn’t he attend a meeting or two to voice his displeasure?? Do something rather than vent on AO it’s the same old BS year after year

Thanks for that BGW but I can handle the usual suspects.
I make a post about emailing the Minister and they all lose their minds.
What these geniuses don't understand is that Trappers that are not members of the ATA don't attend ATA meetings. In order for us to have any say whatsoever emailing the Minister is our best option.
It's unfortunate that these same critical thinkers only think about ATA schemes that screw them over but give no consideration whatsoever for the ones that screw other people over but not themselves. A part of me would like to see the ATA take over the licensing and jack up the price just so they could get a dose of their own medicine. Unfortunately, that would just lead to making it harder for kids and low income earners to trap and lead to even more unlicensed trapping. That's probably not something that any of them have given any thought to.......only their own hardships matter.

I think you are out of line here sir.
If you took a minute to read what he says and pull your head out of ...
You might see what he is about.
Seriously, a coward he is NOT!

If all Alberta trappers become members of the ATA when they by their license then the opinion of said trappers would have meaning. I know Dave tells everyone that he would never support the ATA but he secretly is. He ships he fur through the ATA as well as gets his hides tanned through them. Thanks for your support Dave.

BTW did I mention that anyone that wants to have a say should email the Minister directly and inform him of their concerns.

I hope you address your letters properly Dave. I believe that the person who will be reading you letter is known as the MP’s flunky. Please address accordingly.

All of those Cabinet Ministers have a staff of 6 or 7 people that vet their mail. It has to go through their hands first and they forward the ones that he should know about. That’s how those 14 anti Snaring letters out of Parkland County made their way to Shannon Phillips.
aep.minister@gov.ab.ca is correct.
And no, a mandatory membership to the ATA isn’t going to happen.

The combination of license and membership works in other provinces and states, so why not in Alberta?

I posted the licensing cost for each province on the previous page. What provinces do you think the cost of a license includes a membership in a trapping association?

Bottom line is governments lose much money administering law +licensing in each province regarding trapping.
Probly that’s why the suggested $300from years ago? Maybe AB govt could let ATa licence everybody, etc, but give/lose $1,000,000 to the ATA in the process to cover costs and the. Trappers could continue to buy their licences for 20 bucks.
Very, very nice!
😇
There is a real desire by liberal governments all over the world to administer a worldwide socialist governance program, except in the current USA and Russia, maybe Israel? So why not?

Sorry Dave haven’t the time to do more research. I know that if we did make it part of the license it would give us a louder voice as a group when dealing with the government and antis. Maybe we could be the leaders and start the ball rolling. Thousands are louder and stronger than hundreds.
