Default Bird Taxidermy

I recently found a roadkill hawk that I'm looking at getting mounted. I understand Art of Taxidermy is my best bet but I'm wondering if anyone has any other suggestions or any places to stay away from? Before anybody states the obvious...I'm getting the found dead permit asap. Thanks

I have a hawk down at Art of taxidermy. I find his work absolutely stunning and was actually expecting his work to cost more than he quoted me. Many consider his bird work to be some of the best.

Thanks for the replies. I'm leaning towards Art of Taxidermy as his stuff is unreal but he told me yesterday to be expecting a two year wait!! How did you get your bird down to Ben? Did you courier it or make a road trip?

Yeah I was told 2 year wait as well. I sent it via FedEx. Packed it in a styrofoam cooler from the hardware store, with a few freezer packs and stuffed full of crumpled news paper. Dropped it off an hour before the last drop off time for overnight shipping.

I have used Ben at Art of Taxidermy for years. His birds are by far the best.

Default Taxidermy

I've had Ben at the Art of Taxidermy do my owl and I have another bird there waiting to be done. As stated he does phenomenal work! I'm S of Calgary, so I just drove down to see him! He is worth the wait, in my opinion.

Hawks and other raptors are not easy and regular findings, so IMO you shouldn't cut corners.

I went to Ben's shop this week actually, he had like 10 Great Horned Owls, 2 eagles, 3 hawks, and 3 other kinds of owls... he gets them from all over.
He also had a selection of Raptors getting ready to ship to a German Museum.

He's sought after by Museums all over the world. Enough said right there. We in Alberta are very blessed to have a taxidermist of his calibre.

Arne did a Great Grey owl for me and has done several for people I know. Great work, reasonable prices.

I have also had good dealings with Ben at Artistic.

another thing you should pay attention to is that, its not always the number of years a person has been mounting birds that makes him a better bird taxidermist, its also the knowledge and study behind the work.
When I met Ben he used to work for Albert Hart at Big sky Taxidermy when he moved to Canada, I was a regular client and visitor to Albert's shop... now at the time, Albert Hart had done more years in Bird taxidermy than Ben has ever lived, but even Albert admitted that he will never come close to what Ben was doing at his shop, so thats why he left it all for him to do. .. then I realized that Ben has been a falconer all of his life and a bird hunter as well... well that should say it all, being a skilled and talented person and live your life with raptors on hand, thats why he can mount his stuff like no other... because he knows what they should look like.
