Elk or Moose
Have 10yrs priority on each, finally looks like I will get a chance in fall to utilize. I archery and rifle hunt. Looking for a good zone to apply for one, leaning towards elk (wife due her cow moose in 234). Want a good representation.

Good idea, yes you should definitely use some of those points in a good zone.

Camp Wainwright is about as easy as it gets for moose, though I understand that there were a number of people that draw priority does not apply to, who have been hunting it lately.
All the same, alot of moose in there, and some big ones.

I know there are elk around me, see them when checking wells. But haven’t seen anything that has got me excited.

few things to consider. what type of hunt do you want? vehicle/foot/horses/quad access? can you camp? day trips? time of year? how/what do you have to retrieve? public land?
probably biggest question for elk. do you have private access permission locked down? big mistake to put your draw into any zone that is not public access then try to get permission. that means you need to get busy right now to see if you get a tag, you can actually hunt good area.
that being said, good public areas for elk will need horse access almost exclusively.
moose draws provide for more public access.

Public area elk are easy and do not need horse lol just got to actually get out of truck and walk plenty of elk around. If I was going for true big elk I’d be going to waterton area family there get big elk on there land

pretty sure he doesn't want to blow a p10 on a squeeker. if he does, then the above may work.
if that's not the case, then i'm sure all of us would love to know this public land you hunt that would produce a p10 worthy elk within walking distance of a road.
could happen, kinda goes into my other points. you plan on packing it out 15K on your back?
so yah. HAVE AT ER.
PS While you're at it, give the name and phone number of your family with the huge elk near waterton to the OP. cool. he can set a hunt up there before he applies.

Elk - Suffield (early hunt)
Moose - Camp Wainwright (early hunt)
Good luck. It's not like shooting fish in a barrel, but your odds for both are pretty good.

Thanks for input. I have 2 weeks dedicated to hunt this fall.
I have a camper and a canvas wall tent, so I can get off roads a fair bit. Also have a portable cooler on trailer that I can bring out.
I would see small 5x5 and smaller around work, but would like to use P10 on a area where I could get something more mature. I tell everyone “if ya wanna shoot big animals, only shoot big animals”. I don’t see myself as a trophy hunter, but I refuse to shoot a immature animal.

Very easy to get a big bull at sufield but its 5.5 -6 KM one way and a long shot. Very few ever go in there but thats where they are, there is only one spot on the base I’m im describing and few can do it. It’s two days to get em out.

^^^ this is the part that makes that hunt even better in my opinion.
something to remember along with the hunt, the effort and solitude being out there with out the masses.

With the added Pressure from 10k more people being able to hunt year round I would be pulling both as it could get worse in AB fast.

I believe some areas in suffield you can't solo hunt. Might be a consideration for you as well.
I'd really reasearch what conditions you'll be dealing with before you drop a p10 for any zone. You won't have this opportunity for another 10 years, and as mentioned, by then, the hunting landscape could be a lot different.

I’d cash in the moose priority and start building P again....P10 is more then enough for a lot of good moose units.

I think the OP should have posted where he lives and where he wants to be hunting still or is the plan to travel anywhere in Alberta?? Also if your taking the draw at Wainwright the priority isnt 10 years..
Seems like a waste to not have had a plan a few years back for these draws.

It’s the draw system every morning for that area.
