Is there anything that the Reddington doesn't do for you that you want to improve upon? Reddington is still a good brand. The entry kits are slow action but typically forgiving when chucking line. The line they come with is usually advertised as a Rio line but its very low end. Just throwing a better quality line on your kit can make a big difference.

What weight is your kit? 5wt? Maybe an 8'6 length? Its a all around good combo. You may want to try something in a 3wt, a little lighter to present small drys on smaller water better. I honestly carry much 3wt on all the streams in Southern AB. I use the 5 for bigger main waters and a 7 for bigger stuff. I went with a 3/5/7 set up, but some people will go with a 4/6/8. Some people need to have one of every weight Maybe someday I will add a 4wt.

As far as brands go, well I am not brand loyal though I treated myself to a wonderful Sage Accel last year and honestly I wonder how I ever chucked line with anything less. Do I catch more with it? Jury is still out on that. To some people thats just a regular rod at its price point, to me, its a rod I figure that will last me a lifetime. Its likely best to drop into some place like Fish Tales, or even the Fishing Hole and talk to the staff, tell them what you are looking for and go out and cast it with them. Only you will know what feels good in your hands. Dont cheap out on line though, but getting the right line for the rod can be important.

Something else you want want to look into is a casting class. I can chuck line, spend a few minutes with someone who can teach you a thing or two and its amazing how much better your presentation can be.

I usually recommend TFO. The replacement Warranty is simple with their office in Calgary.

Which model you choose depends on your casting style.

The Canadian tire in okotoks used to have a great selection but was on clearance was time I was there.

i like the St Croix rods and Lamson reels. both are top quality products for a reasonable (for flyfishing) price. i've had reddington, orvis and sage reels over the yrs and the Lamson reels are by far the best i have had (although they were better before they got bought by Waterworks, just not quite the same feel to them as the old ones). i also like the Scientific Trout series fly line, real nice casting line with good accuracy.
that being said, i have friends who swear by the sage products (rods and reels) and won't use anything else. same with the TFO rods, people who have them like them especially considering the price.
