skull identification
My buddy gave me this skull he found, but I'm not quite sure what it is. Looks like a black bear, but it's tiny...maybe a baby? Any ideas?

Looks very much like a Black Bear to me ? tough to see the size though.

It's about 18cm from the end of the incisors to the back of the head and 8 cm tall. I'm going with young black bear. Thanks guys!

It cannot be a bear if it is only 6 inches long. I mean even baby-baby cubs have got to be bigger than that. Also, the shape look somewhat different from a bear skull.

Right.
A bear skull should measure between 8 and 14 inches.
8" would be a yearling cub and it's scull bones would not be fully developed yet.
A Racoon skull would be 4 to 6 inches long. I don't know about their cubs.
This scull has molars so it's an omnivore, not a predator.
That leave only Bear and Racoon if the scull came from Alberta.

Here’s my wolverine skull. It’s 6” long. If it was from up north I’d say that. Down south of Edmonton I’d say badger.

Badger’s skull would not have sutures past nasal cavity because the bones are usually fused together. I only know because I looked it up earlier in the day, lol.

Definitely not an otter. Not a racoon.
I would guess it is a bear looking at the shape of the eye socket and angle of the canines.
