Default Benchmark vs Varget

.223 68 gr. Hornady hollow point. I have Varget in the stable but am just starting to load for the .223.

I have had great luck in some rifles with Benchmark, but lately, I have had great results with CFE-223. Accuracy is very good with 69gr bullets, and greatly reduced copper fouling.

I wonder how it reduces copper fouling? It is 20% cheaper than Varget and Benchmark.

I don't know exactly how it works, but it does work well. I use both CFE-223, and CFE-BLK.

I had better luck with Benchmark in my 223 over Varget. I too have been using CFE-223 for the few past seasons with great success pushing 55 gr Nosler Varmint Ballistic Tips.

I load the same bullet as the OP.

I use H4895 with good results.

CFE 223 will often give higher velocities, with good accuracy, but my experience shows that it is much more temp. sensitive than benchmark/ varget/ h-4895 if that matters to you.

I use BLC2 with my CZ527 Varmint and 69gr SMK.

Just a thought.

You cannot go wrong with H4895 in a 223 Rem.

Varget and Benhmark are so good temp stable and consistent lot to lot wise that I find it hard to recommend anything else.

I use the Hornady 68gr BTHP, loaded on top of 24.5 grains Varget.

0.75 MOA all day long, from a 22" barrel...

CFE.223 in my rifles was extremely dirty...bench mark was much better.

Surprised no one has tried RL-10x. with that range of bullet weights in thier
.223's. It works well in the .20 cals with 32 - 40 gr bullets too.

In my 1:9 Savage .223 I couldn't get Varget to shoot well (I use it in .308 and 9.3x62 with great success). Its also bulky and compressed in .223.

With various bullets up to 60gr Benchmark has been really good for me. 24gr under most 55gr bullets does really well. I am not sure its the best with heavier bullets ITO burn rate?

I can’t remember my exact recipe but I use Varget in all my rifles, except my two magnums.

When I loaded for the .223 I had 5 sets of 3 and shot them at 100 yards, smallest group was under half inch and biggest was 3/4”. That’s with nosler varmegeddon tipped bullets. Worked great for my rifle.
