Not to much of a story really. More luck. I was hunting a new cutblock with some decent sign. I met a guy in there that morning and helped him drag his buck out. A 140 ish deer. We noticed his deer had a big slice in his lip and a broken jaw. 30 min later he spotted another buck with a missing main beam. This got me thinking there was a big mature deer in the area if these 3 1/2 year old deer were all busted up. I left the cutblock at 11:00 to go for a drive and just poke around. At 2:00 I went back to the cutblock to sit until dark and do some calling. As I was driving in to the spot I had picked out to sit I came over a little rise and this deer was at 100 yards nose to the ground. Quickly got out, loaded the gun and got the scope on him. With one loud bahh he stopped and his head snapped back. I held it together long enough to make a good first shot at about 130 yards and he took off running with his front leg broken. I knew the shot was fatal but made a second running shot and missed. He then stopped and was getting ready to go down but I wasn’t taking any chances. The third shot hit him low in the neck and he dropped. I then sat down to give him a little time and think about what just happened. Made the 160 yard walk and put my hands on him. No ground shrinkage here, best buck to date. 49” of mass 24” beams. Grosses right around 184”.

My favourite white tail of 2018 here so far. Doubly so because you got him in the bush.
