From experience with my 7mm Rem Mag, the Berger 180 VLD hunting bullets have preformed great on deer from 70-320 meters and an elk at 180 meters. These bullets also shot very accurately in it.

Same with me. I have had great results out to 500 to 1200 on steel and animals

I have bin using the Nosler 168 LRAB in mine,moose and deer.I did use the 160 gr accubond before these with no problems also.

My favourite bullet for everything in my 7mm Weatherby Mag is a 160 grain Speer Grand Slam.

I load 120gr ttsx for my brother in his 7mm. Very fast, did a great job on deer and a few elk.

My 7mm Tikka M695 loves the discontinued Speer Deep Curls in 175. I'm stocked up.

Also the Sierra 100 gr HP.

If I still could get them it liked the 175 gr Winchester soft point,

My favourite round for my 7mm Rem Mag Browning AB3 is as follows:

Projectile: Berger VLD 168gr
Powder: 74.0gr Hodgdon Retumbo
Primer: CCI 250 LRP Magnum

This round shots beautifully through my rifle. It is pretty hot so if you are building a load I would start in the 72.0gr range. I am a big fan of Retumbo in bigger rounds.

I have taken down the following animals with this round: Oryx, Addax, White-tail, Bison. I was pushing it with the bison but took it down in a single shot.

The only downfall to this round is that in larger animals you typically won't have any pass through. Meaning that there probably won't be an exit hole from the round. That being said if you place the bullet in the chest cavity it will definitely drop the animal.

Why did you choose it over other 7s. Isn't it very similar to the STW?

Hi Jayhad,

It is a Wildcat developed in the 50’s. It has essentially the same case length as the 300 Win Mag so it is shorter than the STW. Originally it was fired from shortened 300 H&H cases, but is now generally formed from 300 Win Mag brass. The shoulder is pushed back so it has a longer neck than the 300 and the Mashburn has slightly less body taper.

RCBS and Redding make dies for it.

Here is a Mashburn case on the left and a 300 Winchester Magnum case on the right.

I’ve owned a couple of the 7mm’s and all they are is a waste of powder. There are non magnums that will have the same end result with less powder being used.

I killed a lot of deer and a few elk and moose and bears with a 7mm rem mag with hand loaded 175gr Hornady IL. Kill very well. Loaded up a bunch for a buddy and him and his buddies killed plenty of moose elk deer bears and a couple buff with his rifle and the same load.

my son took a small bull moose with a 280 rem and 162 eldx last fall, at 275m, ranged. in through a rib, out through a rib, bullet under the hide. moose stood there and bled out, fell over 10 steps from impact point.
the bullet did not mushroom at all, bent over on the ogive, and kept going.
when recovered, the lead was able to be removed from the jacket, both in one piece.
i guess most would call that a fail, but that moose is very tasty.............

As others have said, 160 Accubonds in my 7mm Rem Mag for everything from antelope to moose. Very accurate and great penetration on the larger stuff.....

Also how Remington stole the "idea" for the 7mm rem mag on a safari a Rem executive saw the then wildcat in action and bingo.Just like the Canadian Imperial magnum line.

I’m curious as to what powder you are using and what velocities you are getting?
