Default Canoe trip on the Elk?

Has anyone done a canoe trip down the Elk River? Did a search and couldn't find any info.

Just looking for general beta before doing some detailed research to see if it's worthwhile. Looking for a 3-4 day + trip, if that's even possible.

Was thinking starting from up by Elk Lakes and then paddling towards (past Fernie). Any campgrounds or camping on any Islands? Lots of private land.

PM (or post) if you have any info.

Cheers,

Peter

I've fished it in a drift boat from Morrisey to Elko and in an inner tube from Sparwood to Fernie. Expect to encounter lots of fisherman. Not sure what the upper portion is like.

Many many years ago we did a canoe trip from Sparwood to Fernie. About half way we got into some standing waves that filled the canoes up with water and we sank. Never had canoe covers and never knew about back paddling. We were all soaked and cold and spent a couple of hours at the bar in Hosmer drinking hot toddies. Also years ago fishing the upper elk there were lots of log jams to suck you into. What it is like now I do not know.
