Default Eberle Gone!

Is Strome from the Islanders enough?

Maybe him and Hall room together again? LOL

I think this is a good trade for Edmonton frees up cap space brings in a bigger guy. And a fresh start may be really good for strome.

I have always been a fan of Eberle. Wicked backhand, one of the best in the league but he struggled this year. He put up some decent stats over the years but the business of hockey got him.

You got a team wanting results and a GM needing cap space. Like Hall, I am sad to see him go but hope he will do well with Tavares in New York.

Thanks and good luck # 14.

I'm not saying good riddance because goals are hard to come by, but when a coach and GM see a player who is paid 6 large to put the puck in the net, not score, and not play hard nosed in the playoffs, it's game over.

We have two superstars who have to be paid. That does not happen with magic beans. What a nice problem to have. I'll take that over studying draft rankings any day.

I'll always remember Eb's first NHL goal first NHL game against Calgary. It was incredible, toe drag and all. He's getting big coin but has worked himself out of a spot on the roster. Wish him well and looking forward to see Strome play.

Tough to say who won this trade. The Isles got the better player. The Oilers freed up some cap space, which they badly need.

6 -2.5 = 3.5million in cap space saved.

IMO, it's gonna cost north of $20 million to sign Draisaitl (this year) and McDavid (next year).

Next up, Nugent-Hopkins?

Yep^^^^

My prediction is that Lucic will be the only 6 million dollar Oiler by Christmas.

You can only afford to pay two superstars with a cap i.e.

Toews / Kane
Malkin / Crosby
McDavid / Drai

Lucic ain't worth no 6 million dollars. He's just a scab that nobody wants and keeps getting bounced around the league.

I liked Eberle but I think he was under too much pressure here and not performing because of it.
Like a lot of other Oilers in the past that were in the same situation I'll bet he flourishes with another team.
Good for him and good for the Oilers.

I am more upset about "bb356" getting banned, than I am about Eberle leaving. Too bad as I really enjoyed his "fan photos"...... bb356 that is. As for Eberle, I think the move is great for everyone involved.

I honestly believe he let the trade of Taylor Hall - his best buddy / team mate / best man / room mate etc. - get to him and his season tanked.

I was an Oilers fan in a sea of Flames fans at Flames Central in Calgary for that game. There was a lot of begrudging admiration from those around me for that goal!

Oil need to be cautious with Draisatle. He's really only had ONE good year. Gonna sign him to an eight year, 8 million a year contract based on that? Hall and Eberle had good years that got them 6 mill. That didn't turn out so well. Leon had a great year, but I don't think you put the "superstar" mantle on him just yet. He got a ton of points playing with McJesus, and so did Maroon. And Maroon isn't gonna get superstar pay.

Don't get me wrong. Leon is very good, but are the oil willing to bet he's going to be top ten for the next decade?

Based on the list above he is an 8 mil player. One thing to keep in mind about his age is that they are paying for his prime years, and what he will do, as opposed to declining years, and what he has done.

looking at that list 8m for 8 years is probably the right deal. Rolling the dice on a bigger stronger player like that is IMO safer than a guy like Eberle or say Calgary's deal with Johnny last year.

You must care more than you're letting on. You read the thread title, took the time to open it, and then commented on it....

I was a bit disappointed to see him go, but not at all surprised. Hopefully a fresh start will do him good. I don't think it's a stretch for Strome to pick up another 10 or so goals a season to replace Eberle's production, especially if he finds a spot on the power play or gets significant time on the ice with 97 or 29.
