Default Tall and Heavy

This year I really wanted to get my buck with my bow. I started hunting with a recurve two years ago and I’ve taken a black bear with it and have fallen in love with it. The season opened and I was out with the bow and had a great day stalking bucks, but somehow my limbs became twisted and my string wouldn’t stay on whenever I shot. So sent it to the bowyer he built me new limbs and all was good. I had some great close encounters but was never able to seal the deal. Last week of archery season I saw this buck from a long ways away and couldn’t believe how tall he was. Tried to put a stalk on and my clumsiness pushed him out. Fast forward to rifle season and I see him again. This time he’s chasing does and I just couldn’t get over his height and mass. I’ve shot a few mule deer before and while the standard 4 point is a great deer this guy was so unique I couldn’t pass him up. 1 shot at 200 yards and he didn’t take another step. It was a beautiful day and I got to spend it with some good friends.

That’s an excellent deer. Perfect one to take out of the gene pool. I wonder how many hunter passed that old beast up over the years just to shoot a pretty little 140” 4x4 ? Nothing wrong with an old buck with character.

The smiles say it all. . . . Successful hunt on foot away from the truck traffic. What more can a guy ask for!?The gutless method is the only way to field dress a deer. Looks like you guys are pros.

The deer is nice the mustache is awesome! LOL

Good old fashioned hunting for sure. That's what makes hunting worth doing, the antlers are just the icing on the cake.

Nicely done gents.

Ya there’s nothing I hate more then the footrace the road hunters bring. It was a gorgeous day for a nice hike.

Nice tall buck. Hunting on foot makes for a good day. The meat is always sweeter when you have to work for it.

Just a friendly suggestion... Maybe you were hunting on private land that would not have anyone else hunting. The guy carrying the antlers should have worn red or yellow. Or have some red tape on the antlers or position the antlers facing down to be safe. Wouldn't want some jittery one eyed first time hunter to get buck fever.

Congrats on a great buck, I love the mass, age over inches! The gutless method and hiking them out has become my go to, a sharp knife and good pack and youre on your way.

Very cool looking buck, I'd shoot a buck like that any day. Unfortunately I wouldn't be allowed to here in BC, 4-point or better on one side excluding eye-guards. I had a huge 3x3 at less than 80m the beginning of October and al I could do was watch him. He was the biggest deer I have personally ever seen where I hunt. Congratulations on a great hunt.
