Well said Cat. Hard work and smart planning pays off. Good on Dick for sharing his slice of paradise.

I have not hunted since my August sheep hunt, and the freezer is looking pretty thin since the kids have taken such a liking to sheep. I am spending this Sunday hunting for mulies in the coulees and then have 4 days booked off at the end of the month for whitetail.

I’ve been calling landowners to confirm permissions and have a good plan of hikes and sits in place.

Can’t wait!

Rugersingle and I made the trek up to the 6x6 blind.

We sat a couple days and tonight all heck broke lose with 4 fairly decent bucks romancing does, and squaring off, showing all sorts of dominance and all the neat rut like activities.

We finely decided that this old warrior who was obviously past his prime and that it was his time to hit the freezer.

Rugersingle made a spectacular 400 yd one shot kill on this narley buck with his 7 mm Rem Mag, Remington 700, launching 168gr ABLR’s.

Nice! None of the deer from Dick’s stands went near that high this year of course but they are all good in their own way, mine in particular was an interesting hunt for me

I met Dick on this forum, and I echo your words heartily. Have hunted and fished together on multiple occasions, and he is a true outdoorsmen in every sense of the word. I'm thankful to call him friend. His son is a helluva fine young man, and I shared a doozy of a hunting adventure with him too. Eh Richie??? LOL.

Pretty cool stories. These relationships were kindled or started because of the intraweb. That’s the one positive of the intraweb for sure. Pretty awesome..

It’s actually 3 different areas.
2 of the blinds are a few miles apart.
Rugersingle killed his buck some 5-1/2hrs northwest of the other two blinds.

That blind has a vista like this.

Nearest bush edge is some 340 yds away.

Oh yes, I did fill my antlerless supplemental whitetail tag this morning too.
Just a slight poke of 403 yds.(.280AI)

I’ve never seen a deer neck damaged in this fashion before but it certainly was a lights out sort of encounter.

That's gorgeous. Are your blinds hand made?

Thinking about it I may need to drag Dick out to one of my blinds to see if he is like a lucky horse shoe that just makes deer magically appear lol

The target buck hasn’t been seen, shot or photographed during this month.

My landowners wife reported that two “really big” bucks were killed on the highway in two different but close locations in mid to late October.
I fear my target buck may have got that run down feeling.

I asked you if that was a different deer you shot that was on the camera Dick and you said “no that was the crab chawed but that was on the camera”
Now I am confused , were you after a different buck?

I’ve had upwards of 4 different bucks on the cams, you’re not keeping up with all the different pics I’d been showing you.

I was of the impression that the one with the crab claws was your target buck ?!
