Canadian Pacific Railway train carrying crude oil derails in Saskatchewan, December 9, 2019.
Sunny ways.....But, but , rail is so much safer then a leaky old pipeline. SMH

Has anyone heard how many cars spilled of how many liters released?
The media sure keeps things quiet compared to a pipeline leak.
A couple m3 gets spilled for a pipeline and they tell us in liters.
Train derails and is on fire for DAYS and all they can tell us is "no water was effected and the ground was frozen so it's not bad" or "most of the oil burned off".
Will the rail company be picking up the carbon tax for the oil burned here?

CBC originally said 5 cars were involved. Now they are saying 18-20 are leaking/on fire.

Train burning for 3 days now, so looks like another Lac Magantic fire, just happened in open prairie or we would have lost quite a few Sask residents. Oil belongs under ground in a pipeline, when will our gobberments learn safe transportation of hydrocarbon. Some confusion, believe it was CN line/train, did they not just layoff a large number of front line staff that keeps line safe.

Too. Bad. It didn’t happen in downtown Montreal. Pipelines are safer than rail transport. That might drive home the reality

Disaster
That CP train likely passed through my village less than 100m from my house about 4 or 5 hours earlier. 5 or 9 times a day, every day, we see 100 crude oil tankers passing by at 60kph. Plus the returning empties. Not to mention the propane and other volatile/hazardous materials that accompany the agriculture cars. Lucky for us, we've had the track crews here and there is new roadbed, freshened ties and new rail, plus a giant express siding nearby.
The problem with the train is it passes through dozens of towns and villages on its journey, posing a risk to humans at every place. Pipelines never pass under an inhabited municipality and the danger to life is not as exaggerated as is with overland routes. Plain and simple.
An ironic headline- read by Gormley on the radio- was "Frigid temperatures cause trail derailment..." Hauling the very product that is causing "global warming."

Sask. First Nation fears wildlife, groundwater contaminated by 1.5 million litres of oil released in CP train crash
Kawacatoose First Nation's chief is speaking out over concerns about potential environmental damage resulting from last week's fiery Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) train derailment near Lanigan.
Someone is looking for a handout again over another spill. Chief says they are worried about the wildlife in the area as their band sustenance hunt in that area and they are worried about the underground water sources. Well this Kawacatoose First Nation Band is located in Punnichy, Sk which is over 100km from the derailment/spill site West of Lanigan. Like Holy &$@? find somewhere else to hunt and I’m sure your water source 100km away is not gonna be affected. Where I grew up we are a lot closer then 100km from the spill site. My dad and brothers and all my buddies hunt that area too. Don’t see them calling a news conference over it. Before you jump all over me I am in no way racist I just don’t agree with the poor poor me/us card being played for a government handout. Look after the locals who actually may be directly affected by the spill.

70,000 barrels- gotta go
By the way you've written your opinion, you seem to be associating voicing concerns with asking for a hand-out. Unless you can supply us with details of this "begging" your narrative rings false. Maybe some cash in the pocket would make some city guy happy but that will not restore the environment that, seemingly and by your description, is shared by all peoples.
Clearly you are not a racist nor are you making racist remarks. Or you are. Please elaborate and tell us how your family experiences so closely resemble those of First Nation people in the region.
For example: are you slogging around in oily gumbo while you patrol the area for your supper? Any noxious odors emanating from your kitchen tap? And so on...

It’s the poor poor me/us card that is concerning to me. The Chief is concerned that no one has reached out to his community. Well why the heck should the government reach out to them when they are over 100km away from the spill site. Saskatoon is closer to the spill site then the Kawacatoose community. Are the residents of Saskatoon concerned over not being contacted by the government over the spill. All I am getting at is there are a lot more local people who are and will be affected from the spill that should be Top Priority. You asked me to elaborate on my family experience of patrolling the area for their supper. Why do you think my family hunts any different then anyone else. Looks to me like you are just looking for an argument which I’m not gonna stoop that low and pick every little pointless comment of yours apart. It may not be a handout that the Kawacatoose are looking for so why do they need to be at the centre of attention when their are a pile of others affected more then they are. Maybe they should be lending a helping hand in the cleanup process instead of hindering the process. I’m sure the government has more important concerns right now in regards to the spill. No different then the Husky spill in the NSR.

Chief Dustyhorn, in the news article I read, was asking for information by being included in the loop. No mention of cash settlements or retribution.
It is the opinion of this writer that Chief Dustyhorn has as much right to voice his concerns as does Mr Greatwest. However, the Chief (elected to represent his people) appears to have chosen fact over ideology.
Call a newspaper and have your own "press conference." Speak of the injustice of that fellow's ability to call attention to a growing concern over public safety and demand that your intolerance be recognized.

Also. 1.5 million litres in perspective is about 2/3 the volume of an Olympic sized swimming pool.
People can’t comprehend litres in a large volume but for the media it sounds scary and scary sells.

Look what just showed up in the news feed today. Hmmmm. Was there some method to Chief Dustyhorn’s madness maybe trying to divert the attention away from something else going on within the Kawacatoose community. Oh wait what does it say fined for failure to abide by an environmental protection compliance. Well what about their sustenance animals and their underground water around their community they didn’t seem too concerned over that. Oh wait this is starting to make sense why they had to travel over 100km away to sustenance hunt. Or NOT. What a &$@?ing joke!!!!!!!!!!
