Default Shellholder for .410 bore cases

If you happen to be looking for a shellholder that fits cases of .410 bore shells, an RCBS #43 is a perfect fit. Bought a #43 today, and yes it fits very well.

You could not punch out primers, since the hole in the middle of the holder is too small. You could try boring it out, but that's very hard metal in that thing. There's better and easier ways to punch out shotshell primers anyway.

In case you want to cross reference with other shellholder makers, RCBS lists these metallic shells as the ones a #43 fits:

.223 Win Super Short Magnum
.243 Win Super Short Magnum
.25 Win Super Short Magnum
.270 Winchester Short Magnum
7mm Winchester Short Magnum
.300 Winchester Short Magnum
.325 Winchester Short Magnum

This reloading of .410s is coming along quite nicely - I enjoy it!

Rick

Default cases used

Nope, just using once-shot Winchester and Challenger shotshells.

You must be loading very small amounts of 410, to use that method of loading. It works, but it is slow.

Default reloading amounts

That is true, I am reloading only small amounts, 12 to 16 at a time. And yes it is slow.

I don't mind much, because this .410 is only for magpie and gopher shooting - you only have time for one shot anyway. I am using a Savage 42 takedown, which is a single-shot gun of the most unbelievable simpleness - break open, hand-insert the shell, close the action, cock the hammer, shoot, break open and hand extract the empty. Very much fun, but as I say, very, very simple.

If I was shooting trap or skeet, then of course I would need more shells and would go to a speedier method, and a quicker gun. That speedier method is tempting now that I think of it, though. For now, must resist the temptation!
