I haven't seen any huge ones yet but some nice ones for sure. I've seen em feeding right up with the sheep and one day I'll draw there just for the sweet pics of a mulie on the side of a mountain!

i suppose that big is relative. im not picking on 400 either.....all mountain zones are well below the production of big mules compared to farmland bucks. by limiting this to 400 though, i suspect there wont be more than one to break 180.....well, likely not even 1. aside from that, there is something to be said for the adventure of hunting mountain mules. there are aspects of mountain hunting that the flatlands will never compete with. my comment was only in direct regard to seeing pics of big bucks from 400. i stand by it that it will be a short thread.

Hare are three from 400, the largest is 192 ish taken by an old friend. It is on my right in the first picture. The second picture is my buck, big 3 point, heavy and almost 30" wide. Took a week from when I seen him to finally get him. We took these deer the same year. The first two were on opening day and the second was in mid November. Those mountain deer can be pretty tough to find and harvest but they are out there. Not sure what the hunting would be like there now, these were taken quite a while ago. I have some pics of a few other nice deer from there but these were the two biggest we got.

Sweet bucks!

Just like any big mountain species, they are out there, just have to put the time and the effort! Put miles on the boots and hours on the glass, and add a little luck! I got some pics of some monsters from the 400's, unfortunately I
promised I wouldn't share them, they aren't mine .

Gotta agree , hunting in the mountains used to be very unique .. However if you want to hunt now with Grizz looking over your shoulder you can do that in 108 to name only one prairie zone .. Nice photos bdub , great deer , thanx for posting ..

Wow BDUB! Awesome bucks! I've got a pic of one from last fall in 400 I'll post this aft. Not as big as those, but still good to see! I think my next Muley draw will definitely be a mountain hunt.

Was a time that most mountain zones had big(180+)Mule deer.

They are tough to find now,not sure why but Cougar populations may have been a factor, along with increased numbers of whitetails and human disturbance.

Mountain Mulies are very different from prarie deer.Wilder,shyer and perhaps smarter.

K country seems to be rebounding a little in the area I spend time in(dont hunt there any longer)

400 is full of disturbance,however if you get up into the higher(sheep country)there are probably some huge deer roaming around.Its big country and the deer are in small suitable pockets,spend the time,enjoy the scenery.

take note that 400 is not only in the castle area it borders 302 and 300 and goes down to waterton park the areas that im keen about are mill creek river head down to over pinchercreek corner mtn is a place where ive seen a group of buck al bucks were 150+ the bigger ones were closer to 190+ big wide and lots of mass main beams by brown tines seemed thicker than my wrist

We were chasing two much bigger bucks when this one wandered by my buddy. This was at about 7800 feet elevation. Not in WMU400 but in a 400 WMU.

I have to agree with you Bambi, You just don't see high scoring bucks in the mountain zones like there is in the prairies. I have been hunting the mountain's zones for quit some time and there is hope that big B&C mulie is out there. My enjoyment comes from the style of hunt that it is. Very close to sheep hunting. I have hunted more in the prairie zones over the years and also had alot of fun.
