This perfectly illustrates how the one shot flop ending I give an elk is preferable to the demise mother nature provides............

Elk use that railway bridge often. I've seen large herds of over 50 animals cross it at once.

So much for the theory of wolves avoiding people at all costs. black one looks like he's wearing a collar.

Thanks for the link. Interesting to see the throat take down not a hamstring and pull down from behind.

The wolves of Banff would like to take this opportunity to thank the gov't of Alberta for placing fences along hiways and creating funnels to cross these hiways allowing we the wolves of Banff who are very fast learners, excellent ambush points. Now half the pack can push game along the fence lines while the other half is a couple miles up waiting for a tired elk to show up. Think wolves are smart enough to use these fence lines as a hunting tool? I do.

Two may have had tags but were they the ones who actually killed the elk or was it one of the " helpers"??

Great pictures ! I think some people need to see the raw side of the food chain a little more often. Getting a better under standing is doubtful how ever. when wolve populations out weigh the wild life they need to servive that's where we step in. Gmm, gmm...Grizz

For sure. It's neat to see the detail in the pictures, you can see the bite marks all over the rear and sides.

Point not mentioned is the wolves ate half of the young elk before she died, mother nature at its best.

This reminds me of the pics I seen about 10 yrs ago in a work camp by Lodgepole, I thimk it was called "Peco Camp"? Anyway there was about 12 pics in different stages of a grizz attacking a cow moose in a swamp along a roadway. These pics were takin around 69 I believe. The final pic was the grizz running away with a huge chunk of meat off the shoulder of the cow and she was still standing! The pics were takin by a plant operator, nature seems cruel but it's all about survival.

True, but I'll bet it shook up a few people in Banff.
