Default Turkey vultures

I live between Red Deer and Rocky Mountain House in the country. We have recently found a dead deer on our property, probably road kill. Seen a turkey vulture on it this morning 100% sure it was a vulture. From the small bit of research I did it seems rare they come up this far north. Wondering if it's common this time of the year or if it's something others are encountering.

Default T vultures

Lots of them travel through in spring heading north! And again south in fall.
I’ve seen a few roosting in trees now an then for the past30 yrs and have seen larger groups on dead animals now an then in northern Alberta as well.
Seeing them on the ground is kind of humorous the way the walk or I’d say hop around. And they are truely ugly up close.
Don’t see them often which I’ve been told is because they soar very high up so a person wouldn’t notice them.... when they travel...
Sst

They've been pretty common on this side of the province for quite a few years now. With some even nesting locally.
Here's one I "shot" just north of my yard a few years back.

The first time you see one it's quite the jarring experience for sure.

Saw one today for the first time out east of Wimborne. It was eating gophers I had shot. Amazing looking bird.

They perch on the Tower of the old AGT/Telus building in down town Medicine Hat almost every evening during the summer,8-10 early season up to 16 late season.
Family group I expect.
Can't imagine what the tower and roof top under them looks like by Fall, they excrete some rather nasty material on their legs as a cooling system and in general.

I’m in South East Manitoba, I never Noticed them until 2003, now I see them all the time.
When they are soaring I’d say they are beautiful, black with a grey “v” underneath.

I’ve seen them east of Innisfail and west of Bowden. There are some that nest near Heart Lake (north of Lac La Biche). Used to see them regularly along highway 881.

Lots of them in the Bonnyville area, see them all the time. They nest in abandoned buildings here. Never an issue with trapping, as they are gone long before season starts.

There is a nesting pair in Horsefly too.
Bald eagles eat first, then the golden eagle, then the turkey vulture.
I watched this on a bear gut pile.

Dewey, You need to be careful, they are probably seeing your limp and believe dinner may be served soon.

As you mentioned on page 1...
Just seen 3 eating a duck on a lease road by Ferintosh. As soon as I came over the hill on the quad I knew what they were as they flew up. I’ve only seen them around smoky lake area before this.

That’s like not raising cows because you saw a grizzly bear

Just as mentioned before the Turkey boys were just last straw after so many of my released pheasants were taken by hawks, owls, eagles, mink, foxes, coyotes etc
