Why would you buy a quarter bore and then try to shoot heavies out of it. Would it not be far easier to move up to .284, or even .277. I don't really get the point of trying to shoot bullets so heavy you are running out of case capacity to drive them to a good speed. I shoot a 257 Bee, the 117 is as heavy as I like and the 100s seem to be the real sweet spot. With the standard twist rate in the 25 calibre rifles they aren't made for the 133 or 135 Bergers and I don't see re-barreling just to use a heavier bullet. Even in a Bee it would only be travelling 3100 fps, when I can push a 140 out of a 7 at 3400 easily. Not to mention driving heavy bullets fast is going to make for an even shorter barrel life on cartridges that are already barrel burners.
I would never tell a guy not to do it, it is fun messing around, but I will be surprised if there are a whole lot of guys with experience shooting these heavies. Be interested to hear your results if you decide to move forward with this project.
